TONIGHT!!! (10/24) At MCCOVEY COVE!!! DEMONSTATE!!! BOYCOTT THE BELL!!! SUPPORT CIW!!!

by Damara Luce (& Alan Minsky)
Join Florida farmworker allies *TONIGHT* at McCovey Cove to show the world what Taco Bell is really all about: SWEATSHOP LABOR!
On Oct. 22nd, 23rd and 24th, games 3, 4 and 5 of the World Series, Taco Bell will float an oversized target outside of San Francisco's Pacific Bell Park, promoting its brand to millions of viewers. Taco Bell promises free tacos to the entire country if a homerun ball "splashes down" on the target.

What Taco Bell DOESN'T PROMISE is to take responsibility for the sweatshop-like conditions under which Florida farmworkers toil.

Farmworkers who pick Taco Bell's tomatoes work for starvation wages with absolutely no benefits or job security, no overtime pay, no right to organize without fear of retaliation, and, in the most extreme cases, under conditions of modern-day slavery.

Taco Bell benefits DIRECTLY from the poverty of these immigrant workers, receiving CHEAP, high-quality US tomatoes year after year...

Today, farmworkers with the Coalition of Immokalee workers (http://www.ciw-online.org) have had enough. The CIW is spearheading a national boycott against Taco Bell, calling for an end to sweatshops in the fields.

Join their allies tonight and tomorrow night to show the world what Taco Bell is really all about: GREED, EXPLOITATION, AND HUMAN SUFFERING.

I love Fox. I love baseball. It's as American as apple pie and mom. Thank God Fox had enough common sense to not put you idiots on camera during the game.
Let's get real. How much of a loser do you have to be to protest Taco Bell? I think you people are really getting desperate when you have to make Taco Bell your "cause." Get a life you bunch of homos. Better yet, why don't you all end your lives and do all of us normal people a favor. Fucking trying to ruin a perfectly good World Series... You should be ashamed.

How's about a yummy grilled stuffed chicken burrito with tomatoes picked by "exploited" workers!!! Yeah baby, I'm getting hungry just thinking about it.

That comment just about sums up why the "progressive" movement won't get anywhere in this country. Instead of striving for popular appeal, these guys stick to the smugness that comes from thinking that you're the "vanguard" of the "movement".

The game was expensive so most ordinary San Franciscans watched it on TV. Just because the few rich Newsom supporting sports fans were the only ones who could afford to get in (or aford to pay for boats in the cove), you shouldnt let that bias your opinion about all sports fans.

Id bet you that most Giants fans oppose the war. If nationwide support for Bush war was only at 66%(the number goes way down or slightly up depending on international support) a few weeks ago, Im guessing the Bay Area has lower than 30% support. That means MOST Giants fans OPPOSE the war.

In MANY poorer countries sports games are also political rallies (mainly because stadium are one of the few places that many people can legally get together).

One things for sure, if any of the rich rightwing sports fans took the antiTaco Bell action as an excuse to run to Taco Bell and buy some food, they are going to be running to the bathroom all day today. Besides being made with exploited labour, that stuff is nasty.

Unfortunately, I cant see any mainstream coverage of this event on any news web sites so Im guessing only the small group outside of the game even knew there was a protest. Most Gaints fans are antiWar proUnion and proud of it. Dont let a few Newsom drones spoil your enjoyment of the Giants winning the Series.

Could it be that indymedia censures opinions that go against it's own? Hmm... I posted a response here about 2 hours ago, saying how glad I was that Fox decided not to put you idiots on camera, and that posting seems to be gone now. Maybe it was just a technical glitch? I would never believe for a second that a bunch of communists would want to censure someone who disagrees with them. Well, just thought I'd give you all a heads up. I'm heading to Taco Bell to get me some big beefy burittos with some of them 'exploited' worker tomatoes in it.

Take care losers.

My toilet lives in fear... Taco Bell exploits digestive systems.

To "Not a Leftist" :

The action did receive airtime live on Fox during the World Series broadcast. If Taco Bell can take advantage of free advertising, so can we.

What no one appreciates is the use of disgusting language and insults from anonymous posters. Why so much hostility? Please use your full name and include your email address so that you don't appear to be such a coward.

your toilet has never met White Castle, otherwise it would be counting it's blessings.

Oh no, McDonald's is experiencing a downward trend. This probably has to do with the recession though. Is it really true that people under age 24 don't cook and eat out at nice restaurants for every meal?
-------------------
For decades, fast-food chains like McDonalds couldn?t keep up with the apparently insatiable global demand for burgers and fries. That appetite helped fuel an explosion of outlets that saw trademark golden arches sprouting like mushrooms across the U.S. and around the world. But now, as American?s dining habits are moving up the restaurant industry food chain, demand for fast food is slowing. And traditional chains like McDonald?s find themselves stuck with too many outlets and not enough customers.
