Locked out longshore workers were allowed to load cargo bound for Hawaii beginning Saturday night at the Port of Oakland. According to the ILWU’s chief negotiator Henry Graham, “ the ILWU loads ships during a strike, or in this case a lockout, when the vessel is bound for a cargo dependent port, such as Hawaii.” The other exceptions are made for Military cargo and passenger ships.

Mr. Graham expressed optimism that an agreement with the Pacific Maritime Association would be reached soon. The interview Saturday was conducted at curbside after security for Matson Lines kicked the press out of their parking lot. Meanwhile, for most of the rank and file it is still a lockout.
