Pelosi in Chinatown 10am Sat - Tell her no more $ for Israel!

by vic
please come ready to ask her the difficult questions about what must be done to change US policy from support for war to support for justice and peace in the Middle East.
Rep. Pelosi: NO MORE U.S. WEAPON$ FOR ISRAEL'S OCCUPATION!

Town Hall Meeting with Nancy Pelosi
10am Saturday, August 24

Chinatown, YMCA, 855 Sacramento St.
(between Grant and Stockton), San Francisco

Background:
On July 22, a US built Israel F-16 attacked an apartment building in a crowded residential area of Gaza City with a one-ton bomb.  The attack killed 17 Palestinians, most of whom were younger than eleven. Another 150 were wounded. Because the dead included a Hamas leader alleged by the Israelis to be a mastermind of attacks on Israeli civilians, Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon characterized strike as "a great success".

President Bush, who recently called Prime Minister Sharon "a man of peace", merely called the attack "heavy handed" and then delivered yet another denunciation of Palestinian violence.

We want our Representative, Nancy Pelosi to call for an investigation of whether the attack violated the U.S. Arms Export Control Act [U.S. Public Law 90-829], which prohibits the use of U.S. weapons against civilian targets before allowing the consideration of new appropriations of billions in US military support for Israel.

In an unusual moment of candor, even White House spokesperson Ari Fleischer called the Israeli strike, "a deliberate attack against a building in which civilians were known to be located" and admitted it was done with the knowledge "that innocents would be lost."

The Gaza attack represents a terrible escalation of violence in battle that has consumed 1700 Palestinian and 400 Israeli lives in the past two years. Because Nancy Pelosi is minority whip and sits on the powerful Appropriations Committee, she is ideally positioned to request an investigation. To date, she has ignored requests that she do so.

What we are asking:

Please join us at a Town Hall Meeting with Rep. Pelosi at 10am on Saturday, August 24 at the Chinatown YMCA in San Francisco: 855 Sacramento St.  Please bring your friends and family to help urge Nancy Pelosi to sign a request for an investigation of the recent Gaza bombing. And please come ready to ask her the difficult questions about what must be done to change US policy from support for war to support for justice and peace in the Middle East.
