RALLY FOR JUSTICE IN PALESTINE
July 29th (Monday), 2002 at 5:30 PM
corner of Market and Powell in downtown San Francisco
On Monday, an Israeli F-16 fired a one-ton bomb into a residential area of Gaza. This bomb killed 15 people, including nine children, and injured over 150 Palestinians. Ariel Sharon, the prime minister of Israel, praised the bombing on Tuesday, calling it one of Israel's "great successes," because it targeted and killed Hamas leader Salah Shehadeh. These extra-judicial and targeted assassinations have been condemned in the past by several international organizations, but the devastation caused in this most recent attack has displayed the naked brutality of the Israeli occupation. Throughout the past week, there has been an international outcry against the brutality and the callousness of an Israeli military that would fire on children and drop bombs in residential areas, but in the US the sentiment has been reserved in comparison. We need to make sure that the Bush administration, which just signed an additional 200 million dollar aid package for Israel, understands that we are opposed to Israeli policies.
Please join us in raising your voices against Ariel Sharon's vicious war on the Palestinian and by demanding an end to the occupation, an end to US aid to Israel, and the right of return for Palestinian refugees.
