The Shortwave Report 1/11/02 ¡LISTEN GLOBALLY!

by Dan Roberts (outfarpress [at] saber.net)
A 30 minute review of news and opinions recorded from a shortwave radio. 2 files- broadcast-13.2MB & quick/streaming-3.3MB. With times and freqs for listening at home. Free to rebroadcast upon notification. Netherlands, Russia, Cuba, China, Germany.
Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (January 11) is up at the website
http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality (13.2MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (28:57) It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (Real
Player, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, the Voice of Russia, Radio Havana Cuba, China Radio International, and Radio Deutsche Welle.
From Netherlands- a report on the attempts to deliver food to "tens of thousands" of people starving in Afghanistan.
From Russia- Russia stands to make lots of money from Central Asian oil, now that the pipeline is protected; the Russian Parliment has spoken out against US plans to leave military forces in permanent bases in Central Asia.
From Cuba- a commentary on how the War on Terrorism has allowed a presidential power grab, including repression of all opposition; members of Greenpeace who demonstrated against StarWars in California were given a plea bargain; political opposition in Spain is pointing out Spanish financial involvement in the economic collapse in Argentina.
From China- the Columbian government has suspended peace talks with the revolutionaries, and gave 48 hours to abandon the demilitarized zone; the Palestinian Authority claims no link to the ship full of weapons seized by Israel.
From Germany- a Euro Press Review focussing on the resignation of Italy's Foreign Minister; Switzerland has never joined the UN, has an upcoming referendum on it in March; the weather in Europe continues to wreak havoc as global temeratures continue to rise.
All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station.
I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners)
are welcome to donate for production costs. No Guilt!
