</FONT><br><FONT COLOR=#cc6600>-</FONT><FONT COLOR=#ffff99>06:00</font> Noelle Hanrahan about the political situation in Nicaragua.. now w Ruben, a member of <I>Men Against Violence</I>.. <FONT COLOR=#ffcc00>Ruben:</FONT> the schools and health care have been privatized.. the poor do not have access to education or health care.. no money invested in rural development.. people dying of starvation.. no work.. the coffee producers are broke because they owe much money to the bank.. now w <FONT COLOR=#ffcc00>Dorothy Grenada:</FONT> some families are only eating once a day.. a boiled banana.. or a yucca root, that's all.. it's a crisis.. the land that was redistributed in the Sandinista years, that's all been reversed.. we see big landowners again.. we see a lot of violence against women, against children.. Ruben has done marvelous work.. we now have 50 men in our non-violent men's group.. they intervene with violent men in the community.. stories of success.. dignity, peacefully with his wife and children.. and some stories of tragedy.. without birth control.. this young woman, pregnant for the eighth time at age 19.. made to serve the house, the husband, and the male members of the family.. women come to belief live is being beaten and having babies.. <FONT COLOR=#ffcc00>Dorothy:</FONT> <FONT COLOR=#wfff99>BUT it's amazing, Noelle, when women learn their rights!
