Over 150 people represented street newspapers at this year's North American Street Newspaper Association (NASNA) conference. They came together to attend workshops on fundraising, alternative
housing models, internet activism, and to strategize on the continuing use of journlism as a tool for social change. Many street newspapers, like Street Sheet in SF, provide a unique support system to help poor people deal with the realities of surviving the streets by employing them as vendors.
