# The End of Suburbia Thu May 25 7:00pm-9:30pm Free.

THE END OF SUBURBIA: Oil Depletion and the Collapse of the American
Dream.

Viewers say it best--

"This information is quite shocking. I think many people who thought
they had sufficient information concerning the energy crisis will be
left in a rethinking mode". - Jim, California

"The End of Suburbia is a perfect tool for introducing people to peak
oil. Just enough humor to sugarcoat the bitter pill". - Jason,
California

"...it's one of the most important docs in recent years". - Anthony
Lappe, Guerrilla News Network.

SYNOPSIS: Since World War II, North Americans have invested much of
their newfound wealth in suburbia. It has promised a sense of space,
affordability, family life and upward mobility. As the population of
suburban sprawl has exploded in the past 50 years, so too has the
suburban way of life become embedded in the American consciousness.

Suburbia, and all it promises, has become the American Dream.

But as we enter the 21st century, serious questions are beginning to
emerge about the sustainability of this way of life. The End of
Suburbia explores the American Way of Life and its prospects as the
planet approaches a critical era, as global demand for fossil fuels
begins to outstrip supply. World Oil Peak and the inevitable decline
of fossil fuels are upon us now.

What does Oil Peak mean for North America? As energy prices skyrocket
in the coming years, how will the populations of suburbia react to
the collapse of their dream? And what can be done NOW, individually
and collectively, to avoid The End of Suburbia ?

Commencing at 7:00pm for socializing at Varnish's beer/wine/sake bar,
gallery viewing, then film.

It would be nice to be visible to as many pedestrians and motorists as possible while
offending/ delaying as few motorists as possible.

# Free NLP Personal Transformation Weekend Seminar

Friday, May 26, 2006 - Sunday, May 28, 2006 6:00 PM
I wanted to let you all know that there is a free NLP seminar is happening
May 26, 27, and 28th... This is really a great opportunity....

So, I went to this amazing wonderful 3 day Seminar called "Breakthrough to
Success" about a month ago and had a profoundly transformational experience.
The seminar leader, Christopher Howard, uses NLP practices to take you through powerful
change work around a specific focus area of your choosing - either health, career,
or relationships. (I absolutely love NLP and he is such a master, really!) It
is an opportunity to work with a master trainer for three days and put all your
energy and attention on an area of your life where you would like more fulfillment
and success. The rewards that are possible from taking the time to do something
like this for yourself are immeasurable.

I attended the seminar in January and choose to focus on my career. As a result
of the workshop I have gained inspiring new clarity around my future career direction
and how my to pattern my current experiences to be congruent with that. The workshop
opened doors to more then I had before thought possible. I set strategies for achieving
my desired outcomes and have already taken action on putting some of them into place.

I see this course as valuable to you as a forum for self growth and achieving greater
personal fulfillment, as a place to learn new skills and tools for working with
colleagues, family, friends, and also as an opportunity to attend a super high quality
experiential presentation and apply the learnings you gather from the experience
to times in your future when you may be constructing workshops and training sessions.
Finally I see it as a opportunity for our community to come together and share a
high quality personal development experience, and to gain some new distinctions
around how to LIVE YOUR LIFE AS ART. I will be attending the next workshop (my
second time) and my hope is that a whole bunch of you will be joining me too!

About Xingolati Groove Cruise:
October 2005, Who is Guy Grand... LLC, transformed a carnival cruise ship into a floating music festival. For three days and three nights Xingolati combined the ship's fabulous food and relaxing spa treatments with multiple concert venues showcasing live music from some of the country's most dynamic bands. The entire cruise was infused with Who is Guy Grand... theatrics including performance art, character exaggerations and circus theatrics. Check out JamBase's Xingolati Review or go to http://www.xingolati.com for more reviews.

About Devotchka:
Women in corsets and stiletto heels are just part of the equation. Joining us for a stylistic European hopscotch will be DEVOTCHKA. DeVotchKa's blend of gypsy instrumentation (accordion, bouzouki, and violin), mariachi horns, and flamenco guitar is perfectly suited for burlesque's vintage spectacle. With a powerful, quivering tenor and rakish leading-man speaks of the travails of a lovelorn urban castoff. He frequently paints in Southwestern shades with twangy electric guitar or adds brassy Mexicali tones on trumpet. That vivid evocation of place underlies the band's music. Deep in the stoic history of the SS Jeremiah draped in crushed velvet with DeVotchka you will feel transported.

great shirt here, what can you offer me for it?
The RRFM goes something like this: I've got this really great shirt
here. I don't really wear it anymore, but I'd hate to see it go to
waste. Do you want it? Great! Here, it's yours!

Why would i want to do a thing like that?
Because you have to many things already! Because you're just going to
throw it away anyway. Because it FEELS GOOD! Do you have things
cluttering up your home? Maybe some stuff that you don't use anymore,
but you know that someone else would probably love. One person's
trash can truly be another person's
treasure!

What should I bring?
Bring *your thing* to the RRFM, whatever that is! Material goods,
food or drinks, a service to provide, a skill you have that you want
to teach to others, a performance, or anything else!

What if I don't have anything to give away?
Everyone has something to give to others. The RRFM isn't just about
giving away *stuff.* What is it that you do? Why not come to the RRFM
and find a way to do it for others, except this time for free just
for the fun of it. As a gift to others, as a gift to yourself. It's a
way of reclaiming meaning in your job, to give it as a gift,
unmediated by commerce.

Who runs the RRFM?
Well, the RRFM consists of the sum of its participants. The gift you
bring to the event, helps create what the event is for others, just
as what others bring to the event, creates what the event is for you.
That said, there are some folks who came together to help create the
structure for the RRFM to work. But it is our hope that soon enough,
our role within the RRFM will be the same as everyone else's. That
is, that each of us decides our own level
of involvement.

The RRFM is yours!
Take advantageous of that. Make it what you want it to be! If you
want to see something happening at the RRFM that isn't already
happening, than make it happen! If you want to see more people coming
to the RRFM, help spread the word! Send emails to your friends, make
and distribute flyers (make your ownor download them from the
website), talk to people about the RRFM.
----
Please help us keep the RRFM a 100% FREE and non-commercial event.
Once a month, let's come together and forget about trading,
bartering, and money. Leave the business cards at home and remember
the joy of giving for the sake of giving. Help us keep Dolores Park
clean. If no one takes what you brought, please bring it home with
you. If you like what you just read, get involved!
Come to the RRFM! Bring your own gifts to share! Spread the info, and
get more people involved! The RRFM takes YOU to make it happen.

We have an email list that sends out one email a month to remind you
of the next RRFM. To subscribe, send an email to

# Springfest 5/27
With temperatures soaring like the price of gas, False Profit is cashing
in on the natural heat of spring time. Don't miss your opportunity to be
part of this incredible annual cycle of renewal and rebirth. FP is
partnering with the Rhythm Society venture capitalists and invoking the
Visionary Arts Community to offer you a special daytime event at a park in
the Easy Bay hills. Mark your calendar for May 27 (that's Saturday on
Memorial Day weekend), because this is one event you can't afford to miss!

something that happens every day, because May 27 is not just any day. It's
SpringFest, and we must be crazy to give this all away. That's right, this
is a FREE party. Donations are, of course, appreciated to help with the
expenses for the permits and sound. Most importantly, remember that the
life you enjoy may be your own.

# Marine World Demo - Be There!!!!!

Leaflets and signs will be provided at the demo?just show up and

When: Saturday May 27 and Monday May 29 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Where: Six Flags Marine World, Vallejo, by the ticket booths

20World&country=US&address=2001%20Marine%20World%
20Pky&city=Vallejo&state=CA&zipcode=94589&phon

Why: To educate the public about why Six Flags should not use
animals for entertainment and should close their animal exhibits
and shows.

For more information contact Alfredo Kuba 650-965-8705 or
bkind2animals [at] comcast.net.

Six Flags exploits more than 1,500 animals at the amusement park
- ranging from an orca whale and other marine mammals to
elephants, tigers, and reptiles. Recently Six Flags shipped away
an elephant and brought in new elephants.

We are highlighting that Six Flags should immediately close the
elephant exhibit and stop giving elephant rides and send the
reported seven elephants at the Park to the 2,700-acre Elephant
Sanctuary in Tennessee.

Six Flags Marine World uses negative reinforcement and weapons
(i.e. bullhook) to inflict pain and fear in order to control
elephants. A bullhook, which resembles a fireplace poker, is
used to "hook" elephants in their most sensitive areas. The park
is also known to chain elephants for prolonged periods and does
not provide adequate space for these animals who in the wild
travel tens of miles a day. This lack of space creates health
problems leading to premature deaths.

Marine World's Record of Animal Abuse:

Violated Federal Laws - In 1998, the federal government cited
the park for animal welfare law violations after a baby sea lion
literally cooked to death when the heat in her enclosure rose to
over 100 degrees.

Forces Dolphins and Whales to Perform "Tricks" - When a dolphin
or whale performs "tricks" at the park, you are watching an
animal who is hungry and performing for food. Dolphins and
whales have faces that appear to be smiling, but they are not
smiling. Tricks performed are unnatural and forced.

Separates Baby Elephant from Mother - In 1998, the park
"acquired" a 2-year-old elephant from a zoo in Missouri,
callously separating him from his mother. This is emotionally
devastating for both mother and baby; wild male elephants
usually stay with their mothers up to 14 years of age.

information.

# GoaGil memorial meltdown - 2006

Saturday, May 27, 2006 - Sunday, May 28, 2006
10:00 PM
Friends of Gil are thrilled to announce Memorial Meltdown 2006!

We are very excited to let everyone know that Gil will be returning to California in spring and will have a fresh collection of unreleased tracks for our cosmic dancing pleasure.

We are preparing to host Gil's traditional marathon set on Memorial Day Weekend 2006. Ariane has her own new music as well, playing as Nimba, which we hope she will play in her opening set. Details for the weekend will be posted at Gil's site:
http://www.goagil.com

This gathering is one of the best parties that Gil does all year (we're not bragging, that’s his opinion!), and it's one of the most exciting parties of the season here in California and some would say on the West Coast.

Please plan to join us at the party and if you can throw down some time and energy, we are excited to invite everyone to help out by volunteering in any way you can. We love the community of freaks that show up each year to make this event happen!

To volunteer, contact us via email at: goagil_meltdown06 at yahoo.com. It's always a really fun experience!

Prepare yourselves for a wild ride, we haven't danced together for a year and we have every expectation that this will be a Memorial Meltdown to remember!

# NEVADA RALLY AGAINST BOMB TEST
From: International Action Center <iacenterla [at] action-mail.org>
iacenterla [at] action-mail.org
This Sunday May 28 go with IAC
to the Rally Against U.S. Bomb Test in
Nevada Desert!

IAC VAN TRIP TO THE NEVADA DESERT PROTEST ON SUNDAY, MAY 28

*The Pentagon is testing its largest conventional bomb ever to prepare for an attack on Iran!*

*It endangers the Western Shoshone people and could spread nuclear toxins far and wide!**

Get a seat in the van - call 323 936-7266 for more information or to reserve!

On Sunday, May 28 dozens of indigenous, environmental justice and anti-war organizations will converge outside the Nevada Test Site near Mercury Nevada to protest "Divine Strake" - the name given to the scheduled June 2 test of a 700 ton ammonium nitrate-fuel oil emulsion bomb. The explosion will be equivalent to 593 tons of TNT.

The test of the largest conventional weapon ever will take place in the same area where the notorious nuclear tests were carried out in the 1950s and 1960s. The site is upwind of the sacred ground of the Shoshone people, and the huge explosion will unearth radioactive fallout from those early nuclear tests - endangering everyone in the region. Tens of thousands of cases of cancer are attributed by experts to those early nuclear tests.

The Federation of American Scientists says that this test is meant to simulate the detonation of one of a new generation of nuclear weapons called "Bunker-Busters" and to test their ability to burrow deep into the earth and detonate. Top U.S. military planners are now debating the possible use of a nuclear weapon on a nuclear energy plant in Natanz, Iran, and so the timing of this test makes perfect sense.

Join with IAC activists in a delegation to this important demonstration on Sunday May 28th. The van leaves L.A. at 7 am, and returns late Sunday night.

# "The Coming Media Monopoly: Concentration of Press Ownership and Its Effects on Democracy"
A panel discussion presented by the Society of Professional Journalists and Media Alliance

---
Date: Thursday, June 1, at 7 p.m. - Reception at 6:30 p.m., refreshments and wine
Location: San Francisco LGBT Community Center, 1800 Market St. at Octavia, SF NorthWest Corner
IN SF most Even addresses are on the NORTH or WEST side of the street YO!
Admission: $5 (FREE for members of SPJ and Media Alliance)
---

The last year has seen dramatic shifts in Bay Area media ownership.

MediaNews, the new owner of the San Jose Mercury News and Contra Costa Times, will soon control nearly two-thirds of local daily newspaper circulation; the two largest weekly newspaper chains, Village Voice and New
Times, merged; and there's been an escalating scramble by several large media companies to control the expanding market for ethnic and foreign-language readers.

Can journalism survive in an era of corporate mergers and acquisitions? What about public service and community needs? What can be done in response to these trends to strengthen the quality of our news media workplaces?

Hear from journalists and media reformers who are responding creatively to the evolving media landscape.

Panelists:
-- LINDA FOLEY, president of The Newspaper Guild, a union representing newspaper workers nationwide. Prior to the sale of the Mercury News and Contra Costa Times, the Guild advanced an ambitious plan to transfer it and other former Knight Ridder papers to a "worker friendly" company.
-- TIM REDMOND, editor of the San Francisco Bay Guardian. The Guardian says it has lost hundreds of thousands of dollars due to unfair competition for ads since the two competing alt-weekly chains merged. How can the little guy compete when the "alternative" press is corporate controlled?
-- STEPHEN BUEL, editor of the East Bay Express. New owner Village Voice Media is the Guardian's corporate nemesis. As a reporter Buel once covered consolidation.
-- SANDY CLOSE, founder and director of New America Media, plus an additional panelist to be announced, will address the effects of consolidation in ethnic and foreign-language media.

Moderator:
-- ERNA SMITH, professor of journalism, San Francisco State University.
