Sugar: Toxic Invader #1
http://www.shareguide.com/sugar.html

Nothing in the diet promotes disease and aging more than excess sugar!
Read article

exc#1.. the end of the 1700s sugar consumption was less than 20 pounds
per person per year.
By the end of the 1800s, sugar consumption had risen to 63 pounds
annually.
Now, 100 years later, the average American eats 152 pounds of sugar each
year!

exc#2.. there are over 60 ailments that have been associated with sugar
consumption in the medical literature. They include cancer, asthma,
allergies, diabetes, heart disease, and many more.

exc#3... I can think of nothing in the diet that promotes disease and
aging more over the long term than excess sugar.

What's worse than sugar? NUTRASWEET! Aspartame / Splenda all destroy your body!
Wreck your Pituitary / Thyroid glands, ruin your nervouse, immune systems, beware.

"The two highest achievements of the human mind
are the twin concepts of "loyalty" and "duty".
Whenever these twin concepts fall into disrepute,
get out of there fast! You may possibly save yourself,
but it is too late to save that society. It is doomed."

"There have existed,
in every age and every country,
two distinct orders of men --
the lovers of freedom and
the devoted advocates of power."
-- Robert Y. Haynes
U.S. Senator

"Parties are... censors of the conduct of each other,
and useful watchmen for the public.
Men by their constitutions are naturally divided into two parties:
1. Those who fear and distrust the people, and wish to draw all powers
from them into the hands of the higher classes.
2. Those who identify themselves with the people, have confidence in them,
cherish and consider them as the most honest and safe,
although not the most wise, depository of the public interests.
In every country these two parties exist, and in every one where
they are free to think, speak, and write, they will declare themselves.
Call them, therefore,... Whigs and Tories, Republicans and Federalists,
Aristocrats and Democrats, or by whatever name you please,
they are the same parties still, and pursue the same object."

# May 10 Hello friends of animals,

Pleasurable Kingdom is the first book to focus on new evidence that animals, like humans, enjoy themselves. It debunks the popular perception that life for most is a continuous, grim struggle for survival. Instead it suggests that creatures from birds to bats to baboons may feel good thanks to play, sex, touch, food, anticipation, comfort, aesthetics, and more.

We are lucky enough to have the author on our staff at PCRM; Jonathan Balcombe, PhD is an Animal Behavior Research Scientist who has written numerous scientific papers and magazine articles on, among other things, bat communication, turtle nesting, and bird breeding. He will be giving a couple of talks in the SF/Bay Area.

May 10th 7pm
Book Passage Corte Madera
51 Tamal Vista
415-927-0690
http://www.bookpassage.com
Jonathan will be reading from his book.

May 11th 7pm
Sponsored by the San Francisco Vegetarian Society at:
The Goldman Institute on Aging
3600 Geary Blvd at Palm
415-750-3550

The event on May 11 will be a lecture and a book signing by Dr. Balcombe on his research and findings about animal pleasure. Please come and support Jonathan, SFVS, and PCRM for this groundbreaking and exciting talk!

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

See you there!

# 2006-05-12 7:00 PM
screwup: BDSM for trannies, genderqueers and their friends, presents...

Clips, Clamps, Clothespins, and Zippers! with -robin

Friday, May 12, 2006 from 7:00 to 9:30 PM
New College of California in San Francisco, Room 22 (2nd Floor)
766 Valencia Street (near 18th Street), San Francisco

Some of my favorite things are clamps, clips, zippers and especially clothespins. The wide variety of sensations and decorative activities that are possible make them lots of fun. They are also something anyone can play with, from the complete novice to the long time very experienced player. They're also a very cheap DIY toy that can give hours of fun!

I will be showing a variety of clips, talk about where they can best be found or purchased, and demonstating their use on a wide variety of body parts, including genitals. I will also display the construction of a zipper or two and there will be some equipment available for people to try out some of the activities for themselves. I will talk about modifying clothespins to make them more or less evil and decorating them to make your sweet canvas look more lovely or more scary. I may want volunteers from the audience and there will be a chance for folks to experience some of this for themselves if they wish, so please wear something that will allow access to at least some flesh, arms and legs are fine if yer shy.

Clips, etc, can also be used for predicament situations and I will explain a few ways and hope that this evening will be a chance for attendees to also share their own decorative or sadistic ways they like to use these fun and versatile toys. Please bring whatever you have.

screwup is for trannies, genderqueers, and our friends. This event is open to all genders and will be held in Room 22 at the New College of California. Folks sometimes go out for coffee or food afterwards, so come prepared...

# First Annual Women on Top: Movers and Shakers of the Industry
Sat May 13 2:00 pm - 4:30 pm Free of charge

Good Vibrations, legendary destination for sex positive products,
service and education, honors the luminaries in sex-positivity by
hosting the "First Annual Women on Top: Movers and Shakers of the
Industry" panel scheduled on May 13, 2006 from 2:00-4:30 pm at Good
Vibrations 1620 Polk Street (at Sacramento) in San Francisco. Free to
the public, Good Vibrations invites you to lift a glass of wine and
pass the hors d' oeuvres for a meet and greet with famed educators
and philosophers with a panel moderated by local Bay Area freelance
journalist and health educator, Liz Highleyman.

For the first time, Good Vibrations brings together the women
responsible for challenging often unconscious and outdated
assumptions about sexuality and pleasure for both men and women. The
pioneering works of Betty Dodson, PhD, Annie Sprinkle, PhD, Carol
Queen, PhD and the rest of the panel of extraordinary women have
helped everyone to more readily enjoy non-judgmental shame-free
sexual expression, to better understand our bodies, and to explore
new erotic options. The first Annual Women on Top panel is an
opportunity to honor and meet the leaders, old and new, whose
lifework consists of evolving sexual pleasure into a healthy, strong
and empowered action for all.

# BrainTree and the Theory of Everything
Opening reception: Saturday, May 13 5 -7 PM free

An exhibition in the Front Gallery
Featuring the work of Anli Liu
Exhibition runs: May 13, 2006 - May 20, 2006
Gallery hours: Wednesday-Saturday, 3-6 PM

BrainTree and the Theory of Everything is Anli Liu's visual
reflection on the myriad of images, information, and experiences that
she has accumulated through her study of neurology. Here she
appropriates the visual imagery of modern medicine-including
biochemical maps, diagrams, and flowcharts-to create a series of
landscape drawings and installations. Incorporating patient detail
and working with the handicrafts of drawing and stitching, she
subverts the detached and reductionist nature of scientific knowledge
and transforms its symbol systems into a kind of personal landscape.
Stylistically, Braintree hovers somewhere between the internal and
external, masculine and feminine, reductionist and metaphysical,
scientific and personal.

Anli Liu is a visual artist and medical student living in San
Francisco. Since her first high school science class, Liu has been
fascinated by the patterns, systems, and processes of biological
life. She also finds herself attracted to the boundary between the
natural and the supernatural. She has previously exhibited at Build,
Arspace, 66 Balmy, Mimi Barr, Genart's Emerge, the World Council for
Arts and Culture Second Biennial International Juried Exhibition, and
Linda Fairchild. Liu is an alumna of Stanford University, UC
Berkeley, Pratt Institute of Fine Arts, and will earn her MD from the
University of California, San Francisco in May 2006.

BACKGROUND INFO: COMMUNITY CHOICE

In 2001 San Franciscans turned out in droves to support a ballot initiative that allows the city to build the largest municipal solar system in the world. Five years later the city has yet to install a single solar panel as part of the program and the Community Choice plan that will jumpstart the solar revolution hasn’t been implemented.

This plan, if approved, will pool the buying power of San Francisco’s electricity customers to build the largest municipal clean energy network in the world. After implementation, at least 1/3 (or 360 MW) of our peak electricity will come from local solar, wind, and other renewable energy. That’s enough electricity to power every home in the city. More info about Community Choice can be found at

MAY 15: INT'L CONSCIENTIOUS OBJECTOR DAY
For over 20 years May 15 has been celebrated as
International Conscientious Objectors Day. Each
year activities are focused in a country where war
objectors are being harassed or persecuted. This year
the international focus is on the United States'
denial of the right of soldiers to object.
Conscientious Objectors, GI resisters and dissent
within the military deserve our support as they stand
up for human rights and dignity, democratic rights,
and international law. Widespread public support and
pressure can help protect these courageous individuals
from feelings of isolation and from repression of them
and their rights. This year coordinated activities are
being planned in the U.S. in New York, Washington DC
and the SF Bay Area.

PEOPLE POWER CAN END THE WAR
This mobilization is in support of ongoing campaigns
to support GI objectors, resist military recruitment
and a possible draft, and end the war and occupation
in Iraq and global policies of empire. While the
government wages war and occupation abroad, it also
sponsors a domestic war at home, including
attacks on immigrant rights, and cuts in education,
healthcare, and housing. This action is part of a
people power strategy to assert our power to end the
war ourselves by supporting objectors in the military
and cutting off the supply of recruits.
