Americans for Affordable Electricity was one of many diversionary cover groups used by the California Energy Crisis operators.
On a much larger scale, Americans for Affordable Electricity promoted deregulation and market-based utilites. The size and firepower of the energy deregulation consortium dwarfed any scrutiny. AAE belonged to a whole class of publicly- and privately-funded PR and lobbying groups that recycled money into politcal agendas.
Alexander Strategy Group funded AAE with $411,000 from Enron between 1999 and 2001. Alexander Strategy Group and Ed Buckham are directly linked to DeLay's scandalous use of public- and private-fundraising to finance the wealthy lifestyles of cronies and family.
Brent Wilkes, San Diego County finance co-chairman of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's campaign and the state finance co-chairman for President Bush, has a lobbying group in Washington – Group W Advisors, which also paid about $630,000 in lobbying fees to Alexander Strategy Group, a firm headed by DeLay's former chief-of-staff Ed Buckham and staffed with former DeLay employees.
Brent Wilkes and MZM both used bribes and kickbacks to land government contracts, in collusion with a number of elected politicians, including Congressman Cunningham. Abramoff is also linked to ACDS, Inc, the defense company owned by Brent Wilkes.
Schwarzenegger's run for governor was confirmed in an internal Enron memo written to Kenneth Lay, outlining his trip to California to reinforce the Enron / Government media campaign to hide the true nature of the 'Energy Crisis.' Governor Davis was ineffective and complicit, as the state of California was siphoned of billions of dollars; but he was replaced with Schwarzenegger, who was intimately tied to the teams that were paid to disguise the 'Energy Crisis'.
Enron operated in collusion with the government in a partnership with PACs and soft money lobbies. While Enron traders were laughing about re-routing California's energy supply and forcing it to pay emergency hikes and guarantees, the government and media completely diverted the public's attention and covered up options for defense. False and misleading statements issued from the government and the white house, reinforcing the cover up.
The Unites States government was warned by paramilitary, military, and foreign national interests, that the 'California Energy Crisis' was in fact a large-scale theft of the state of California's record budget surplus. But what warnings that were sounded were drowned out in a deluge of false signals from inside and outside the government.
Groups like Americans for Affordable Electricity had been created to churn out both memos and media in advance of the 'Energy Crisis', and to heighten conditions that would allow the operation to take place successfully. The large scale PR campaign operated in tandem with the state of California, PG&E, Enron, and the federal government. The co-conspirators relied on an interlocking series of myths for public consumption. Only a few of these myths have been challenged in public to this day.
