San Francisco | Anti-WarDirect Action Against the War
Montgomery and Market Street Shut Down. ![]() guantanamo_09.jpg As a cold rain fell, on the third anniversary of the start of the Iraq war, one of San Francisco's busiest and prominent intersections, Montgomery and Market Street, was shut down during rush hour to protest the war.
The shut down started around 8:00 am when about 25 protesters, some dressed as Guantanamo Bay prisoners and guards, others carrying signs accusing Dianne Feinstein, who's office is nearby, of complicity with the war, stopped while crossing market street and refused to move. The police quickly cordoned of the entire intersection and connecting streets. All of the protesters allowed themselves to be peacefully arrested, while a crowd of around 250 chanted and played music as the rain turned into a downpour. The arrests were complete and the intersection was cleared by 9:00 am.
