Who are you?

by The Project (projectcollective [at] riseup.net)
Who are you?
Are you someone who can imagine how it is to be homeless?
6000,000 people go homeless every night in the United States.
3371 of them live in Santa Cruz.

When they try to find a dry and warm spot to stay for the night,
You might sit at home and watch your favourite TV show.

Who are you?

Are you someone who went to High School or even University?
37 million people live in poverty in the United States
29383 of them live in Santa Cruz.

While you worry about grades for your exams or the ones of your kids,
Those people worry about paying for education or more likely don’t even get
any.

Who are you?

Are you someone who goes to the doctor when getting the flu?
45.8 million people in the United States have no health insurance.
At least 20000 of them live in Santa Cruz.

While you sit in the waiting room to ask the doctor to check on your cough,
One of those people might die from the consequences of a flu.

Who are you?

Are you someone who loves to see others smile?
Everybody on this world should love to make others smile.
In Santa Cruz at the Homeless Garden Project people who have little try to
make their friends and volunteers smile.

There are also people on this world who have more resources than they need
but still just focus on making themselves smile.

Who are you?

You are someone special if this poem made you think,
You are someone special if you see those inequalities in life,
You are someone special if you try changing our society to the better,
And you are someone special if you see that every helping hand can make a
differences.

Who am I?

I am a volunteer at the Homeless Garden Project in Santa Cruz.
