Photos from the WTO Protests in Hong Kong, Day 5, page 2

by Puck Lo
At the main barricade blocking the road to the convention center where the WTO ministers met, protesters battled police resolutely all afternoon.

Police used firehoses to deter protesters who launched plastic furniture--used by the swarms of reporters--at riot cops who deflected them with shields. The hoses shot water that, according to mainstream press sources, were mixed with an unspecified chemical that causes burning of the skin.

Students and farmers who were at the front lines suffered the most.

A total of 140 people were injured and went to the hospital. Ten of them were police.
