Raed Jarrar: "See You in Rubble"

by Raed In The Middle (reposted)
Everyone is talking about the use of the unconventional weapons in Fallujah after the Italian documentary “Fallujah: The Hidden Massacre” was aired on Rai TV. I posted once some graphic pictures of dead Iraqis in Fallujah in what seemed very clearly to be a result of the use of chemical weapons. Majed, My youngest brother, published some other pictures of dead bodies after Baghdad’s Airport battle, in the first week of April 2003, which showed what seemed to be the use of unconventional weapons too. My old friend, Jo Wilding, worked on a very interesting site survey and found out that most of the residents of houses around the airport had strange skin and respiratory diseases after the war. I hope a future documentary, or documents, would prove the use of those chemical weapons in Fallujah and Baghdad.
There was a very wide use of depleted uranium (DU) against Iraqi armored tanks and buildings, and many of these tanks and buildings were in the middle of residential areas. My friends from GNN included some informative parts about DU in their excellent documentary: “BattleGround: 21 Days on the Empire's Edge”. We went together to some places hit with DU bullets, and tested the area with a Geiger counter.

In addition to that, I took many pictures (and even some samples) of some walls in the middle of Nasiriya (the southern Iraqi city). The walls were full of nails! Hundreds, or maybe thousands, of nails because of a US nail bomb that targeted one of the city’s oldest cinemas.

But what does “unconventional” or “illegal” weapons mean anyway? Are there any legal weapons to kill civilians? Are there any conventional bombs to destroy cities?

Every bullet that was shot in Iraq by the occupation armies is an illegal and unconventional weapon.

Can you guess who said the following quotes?

- The war in Iraq is "a flawed policy wrapped in illusion"
- "It is time for a change in direction,"
-"[The U.S.] military is suffering, the future of [the U.S.] is at risk."
- Called for "the immediate redeployment of American forces."
- "It is evident that continued military action in Iraq is not in the best interests of the United States of America, the Iraqi people or the Persian Gulf region,"

No, it wasn’t me!

This was the Representative John Murtha of Pennsylvania, the leading Democrat on the House Appropriations Committee's defense subcommittee.

The majority of the U.S. people are turning against the war. This is a fact now.

A part of them are anti-war, anti-violence and anti-occupation Americans with good wills and intentions

but the other part (which is the more surprising part) are the most racist and anti-Iraqi chicken-hawks who are choking in the bitterness of their defeat.

I usually ignore emails from ignorant-arrogant-snobby-macho-racist readers, but this one is important, because I think it reflects a big change in little bush's supporters and their vision about the war on Iraq.

Raed,

I read your some of your Blog, very interesting.
I am an American who supported the war but has turned against it now that I realize that the goals of the war are lost and there is nothing more to accomplish.

The first problem I see is that the goal of turning Iraq into a wealthy Democracy has been flushed into the toilet by the Iraqis and Iranians.

The second problem I see is that it appears that any legitimate government by and for the Iraqi people will be more theocratic and more oppressive than is worth fighting for. If you want to fight for it that's fine but my tax dollars are better spent on Oysters Rockefeller and Jim Beam.

My hope now is for the developed world to move itself to a hydrogen based economy and for the US and Europe to leave the Middle East to its Theocracies and infighting. If we move fast enough, you'll be cleaning your own sandbox in about 10 years. Good luck.

As far as the Israel issue goes, it's your problem. Holy ground schmoly ground is my message to all backward ass religious freaks.

NEWSFLASH: There is nothing supernatural in the universe.

I'm with you Raed, the American troops are coming out, don't worry about that.

See you in rubble,

Anyway... Whether you are for bringing the troops back home because you're nice and humane, or because you don't think the Iraqi people deserve your generosity, we are on the same side!

Or maybe we are on the same side until the troops come back home, but I'll be on a different side from the people who want to see Iraqis "in rubble". After the US army is kicked out/ withdraws form Iraq, we'll talk about how many trillions of dollars should be paid to Iraq and Iraqis as compensation for the illegal war, occupation, murders, and destruction of their country.
