Garlic
Not only is it antibiotic, it is also directly effective against viruses. It is also anti-fungal and anti-parasitic as well among many other things. It's important for colds AND flus.
How do I use garlic?
Well, the most obvious garlic remedy is to cook with it. I give ideas about using garlic in the immune soup recipe as well as in my special-tea. Eating garlic regularly is extremely healthful. It also helps lower blood pressure and cholesterol counts. It’s absolutely amazing.
It’s most potent to use garlic raw. Cooking with it regularly is good for your health, but when you need it in an acute situation, use it raw.
Juicing it and adding it to other juice is a great way to take raw.
There are many good raw garlic recipes that are garlic remedies, such as humous. This is a traditional middle eastern dish/spread. You can find it at supermarkets or you can make your own.
These recipes are a great example of "eating your medicine." Eating healthful meals with antiviral and antibiotic properties built into them is optimal. However, if you are already sick, then cooking garlic into your soup is one of your best options.
What about the odor?
If the odor is an issue or you aren’t quite ready to integrate garlic into your diet more, you could try garlic tablets. Understand that tablets are never going to be as good as the real thing, but they do work. Garlinase 4000 is a good tablet.. there are others.
 
Garlic remedy on my feet?!?!?
Two ways I use garlic when I’m sick (other than teas and soups)

1 Garlic vinegar. I infuse garlic in vinegar, and it’s a great way to get the raw qualities of garlic.  I eat the vinegar straight when I’m ill. But day-to-day, I use it in salad dressings or recipes that call for vinegar.

2 Garlic on my feet. Yes, you read right. Here’s what I do: I crush a few garlic cloves, put them in a little jar or bowl, and cover it just so in olive oil.

In about a half hour, I rub the oil on my feet. I do this on my kids as well when they have a bad cough or they have a chest cold. For me, I also put the garlic pieces between my toes (but not for kids).

Then, I put socks on for the night and go to sleep. When I wake up, I have garlic breath, so I know it works! No kidding! Garlic enters your system and heads straight for the lungs.

Garlic is amazing for the lungs. This is a great way to fight bacterial infections. It also enhances your immune system and fights viruses at the same time! I love this garlic remedy.

What is a weed? A plant whose virtues have not yet been discovered.

CONGRESS SET TO BAIL OUT BIG PHARMA IN SECRET
Senator Bill Frist (R-TN) confirmed this morning that lawmakers are
trying to sneak language into an unnamed appropriations bill in the Senate
or House to ban citizens from going to civil court to sue drug companies
if they are injured.

The move follows President Bush's call "to give drug manufacturers sweeping immunity against lawsuits." While there is agreement that firms producing experimental medicines in emergency situations (e.g., during a pandemic flu outbreak) should be protected, AP notes that "the protections described in the draft are quite broad, and some say they would make it extremely difficult for those harmed by a medicine to get any financial compensation." Rep. Dave Weldon (R-FL), a former doctor, called the plan "lacking," and said he was concerned the protections were so overreaching "that people
might be unwilling to take medicine in the event of a flu pandemic."

Yuppees Put Haight Ashbury Street Fair On Hold!

Twenty Eight year community street fair and music festival put on hold by neighboring home owners group.

Pablo Heisny, founder and director of the very popular Haight Ashbury Street Fair's for almost thirty years is battling a Cole Valley Home Owners group to save his neighborhood's faire. It seems that newer home owners in Cole Valley, about 6 blocks up the road, are miffed about the excess and type of foot traffic one day year. Ironically Pablo Heisny trained the administrators and managers of the Cole Valley street fair.

It would seem logical for the Cole Valley street faire and Haight Ashbury Street Faire to join forces and have both festivals on the same day to spread out the traffic. But Pablo says that the Cole Valley street fair folk are turning up their noses at the thought.

This to me seems rather un community spirited and is a very real form of cultural genocide. One community is actively attempting to deprive the freedom of speech of another community. Yes some folks do piss in doorways, but that happens all year round in both neighborhoods, not just one day a year. And by the way, have you every been to India?

Is there a connection between real estate ownership and the disconnection from one's community and neighbors?

STREET FAIR PERMIT ON HOLD
JOIN PRO-FAIR E-MAIL CAMPAIGN
SFPD Captain John Ehrlich from Park Station has requested that the 2006 Haight Street Fair permit application be put on hold because of his sense of community concerns after holding private meetings that excluded any input from the Haight Street Fair.

We also feel that this move is related to our efforts for calling attention to a proposed doubling of Police Service Fees that did not include significant public opinion and how it would adversely affect street fairs across the City. In July, 2005, the Finance Committee tabled the fee increases and directed the SFPD to hold city-wide meetings with the street fairs to discuss the pertinent issues. This has never happened despite our repeated requests for such meetings.

We are asking you to voice your support for the Haight Street Fair and its 2006 permit application and to request that any fee increases for San Francisco street fairs should have a public forum.

Right to bear arms

as many of you know prop H passed in San Francisco taking away the right to bear arms.
They can say it will stop crime, but the fact is the lawful gun owners are now disarmed and the criminals are still armed.

This isn’t even about crime to me, this is about the right to bear arms and maintain the ability to protect from our Government.

A free state. With Bush in charge we are moving away from that with tremendous speed.

America was built on not agreeing with the current rules. At some point in the future there will be another civil war like event. Our government is waiting for an opportunity such as "bird flu" or a "terrorist strike" that they can use and take advantage of to "quarantine" us and strip us of our rights. Bush has spent a lot of time talking about Military control over free states. He doesn’t make it a secret.
We will need to be able to fight back.

Tens of thousands of people raised their voices for justice in the streets
of Argentina last week as President Bush met with Latin American leaders.
Bush's visit to Central and South America was marked by strong opposition
to his administration's policies of militarization in Iraq and around the
world, by another stumbling block in his free-trade plans for the
hemisphere and by persistent questions of the U.S.'s use of torture.

In our own country, in Latin America and around the world, there is a
growing cry for an end to failed attempts at solving social and political
problems through military violence. NEXT WEEKEND, OUR URGENT CALL TO CLOSE
THE SCHOOL OF THE AMERICAS MUST BE AS CLEAR AND STRONG AS EVER. On
November 18-20, we will raise our voices with people throughout the
Americas to declare that a better world is possible, a world free of

Betty De Shong Meador is a Jungian analyst, member of the C.G. Jung Institute of San Francisco, now retired.  Her beautiful and powerful translations of the poetry of Enheduanna appear in her book, Inanna - Lady of Largest Heart and in the forthcoming On Your Radiant Site - The Sumerian Temple Hymns of Enheduanna.

high schools but also some colleges, against reprisals

people, and justifying it" (including ongoing protests
exposing the torture legal architect Professor John
Yoo - more people both young and older are needed for
more such protest activities coming up soon). And we
have huge plans to make together, from all over the
Bay Area, for further organizing and action that
builds up to the State of the Union address.

If you are coming from further away (Santa Cruz, North
Bay, Fremont, Sacramento??) our office can try to help
people connect up to carpool or ride together -- call
us to get in touch with others in your area.

Major outreach planned for Nov 25th the day after

This film delicately narrates the story of Berta Quintreman, an
elderly indigenous woman who, at the age of 88, led the last group
opposing the construction of the Ralco Project, a gigantic dam that

native Mapuche Pewenche community has lived for centuries. A woman
with a strong personality and a unique blend of humor and energy,

the sun, drinks mate (a traditional herbal tea) with her dead, and
says her prayers. But at the same time we will see that she confronts
the authorities of Endesa (a Spanish transnational company) and the
Chilean government. She manages to halt the machinery and works
together with other families to prevent the flooding of their land.
The Mapuche people are the largest indigenous tribe of southern
Chile. After the ending of Pinochet's military dictatorship and under
increasing pressure from forestry companies, the Mapuche took up the
struggle in the 1990's to recover their territory. This film is
directed by Jeanette Paillán. Jeannette herself will attend the
showing to comment on her work and the situation of the Mapuche
people today. Jeannette's works have been screened internationally
since 1994. Her first documentary, Wallmapu, was awarded at the 2003
Human Rights Film Festival in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Jeannette was
also festival coordinator of the 2004 CLACPI Festival of Indigenous
Film and Video in Santiago, Chile.

"Stop Global Warming" Actions on December 3

Climate Crisis, USA Join the World!
http://www.climatecrisis.us today announced that it is
organizing actions across the United States on and
around December 3 to demand that the U.S. government
support action that is commensurate with the urgency of
the deepening climate crisis.

"Scores of Stop Global Warming local actions will be
happening during the Nov. 28-Dec. 9 time period when
the huge, United Nations Climate Conference in Montreal
takes place," said Ted Glick, spokesperson for the
group. "We will be acting in concert with hundreds of
thousands of people in at least 28 countries around
the world who are making December 3rd an
International Day of Action to Stop Global Warming."

The Climate Crisis group is demanding that the U.S.
government join the world by ratifying the Kyoto
Protocol.

Climate Crisis also demands that the federal government
withdraw its annual $25 billion in subsidies for coal
and oil and create equivalent subsidies for clean,
safe, non-nuclear energy alternatives; that it
dramatically strengthen energy conservation and fuel
efficiency standards; that it plan for a just
transition for workers, Indigenous communities and
others affected by a change to clean energy; and that
it actively defend the world's forests and support
community-run tree planting campaigns.

States where local actions will be taking place
include: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado,
Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Illinois,
Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan,
Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio,
Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Utah and
Washington.

In D.C. on December 3, scores of hybrid vehicles
organized by the Chesapeake Climate Action Network will
circle the White House. In New Orleans the Alliance for
Affordable Energy will be holding a Stop Global Warming
event in the French Quarter. In Los Angeles on December
2, the Labor/Community Strategy Center will be doing an
action calling for an expansion of the city's bus fleet
to provide badly-needed public transportation which
will also cut down on car-producing greenhouse gases.
And in New York, also on December 2, a coalition of
groups will rally in Foley Square across from the
Federal Building calling for the federal government to
stop its obstructionist efforts and instead act to
address this urgent crisis.

In many localities, following the lead of organizers of
a massive march on December 3 in Montreal, participants
in the actions will try to hold their breath for 60
seconds. USA Join the World! coordinator Glick
explained that, 'Doing so reminds us all how important
clean air is to all living things. It reminds us of the
urgency of our work. It is a metaphor for what people
on some Pacific islands may soon have to do as the
oceans rise and their islands disappear and breathing
becomes impossible.'

Dec 17th, Third Annual International Day to End Violence Against Sex
Workers

International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers is meant to
call attention to hate crimes and violence against sex workers all
over the globe. Originally thought of by Dr. Annie Sprinkle and
started by the Sex Workers Outreach Project USA as a memorial and
vigil for the victims of the Green River Killer in Seattle
Washington, it has grown to be a day for strategizing to end these
acts as well as remember the victims. Over thirty cities around the
world have participated in this event.

This year Sex Workers Outreach Project is expanding events to cover
the entire week of December 17th so that we may diversify the forums
for discussion around violence against sex workers.

The Panel Discussion portion of these events on Dec. 17th from
10AM-2PM will focus on both identifying forms of violence against sex
workers, including structural violence and stigmatization, as well as
thinking of solutions. Panelists will include sex workers' rights
activists, sex workers, prison abolitionists, law enforcement, and more!
