UCSF To Pay Fine For Animal Rights Violations
SAN FRANISCO -- University of California San Francisco will pay one of the largest fines for animal rights violations in history.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture had charged UCSF for 75 counts of animal welfare violations.
Now, the university will pay $92,000 for creating an atmosphere where employees are afraid to report complaints and several other charges.
UCSF settled the case Friday just days before formal hearings were scheduled to begin.

Circus Arts' Clown Conservatory. Thirteen first year clowns studying

# BURNING MAN ON FILM

2 Great Burning Man films coming to 2 Great Festivals!

We have wonderful news about 2 of our favorite all-time Burning Man documentaries! Purple Productions' "Dust Devils" will be having its North American festival premiere at the San Francisco World Film Festival (SWIFT) at the end of this month (*bonus! it's programmed along with an outstanding short on Reverend Billy called "Preacher with an Unknown God"). PLUS! Gone Off Deep's "Burning Man: Beyond Black Rock" will be having its official bigtime festival World Premiere at the prestigious AFI Fest in Hollywood in early November.

This is extremely good news for all Burners worldwide, as each of these films does a wonderful job of dispelling a lot of the negative myths about Burning Man and educating the public about our special little corner of the universal culture. As many of you know, Burning Man's ongoing existence and especially our community's connection through the regionals network greatly depend on a better understanding (and therefore less fear) of what we are about from the general public...films like these can bring the true story to people who have never been to Burning Man and will likely never go, and have already mentally filed it away as "like a Woodstock" or "a big rave in the desert" or "some Pagan hippie thing."

# BURNING MAN ON FILM Sat. October 1st 12noon

We have wonderful news about 2 of our favorite all-time Burning Man documentaries! Purple Productions' "Dust Devils" will be having its North American festival premiere at the San Francisco World Film Festival (SWIFT) at the end of this month (*bonus! it's programmed along with an outstanding short on Reverend Billy called "Preacher with an Unknown God"). PLUS! Gone Off Deep's "Burning Man: Beyond Black Rock" will be having its official bigtime festival World Premiere at the prestigious AFI Fest in Hollywood in early November.

This is extremely good news for all Burners worldwide, as each of these films does a wonderful job of dispelling a lot of the negative myths about Burning Man and educating the public about our special little corner of the universal culture. As many of you know, Burning Man's ongoing existence and especially our community's connection through the regionals network greatly depend on a better understanding (and therefore less fear) of what we are about from the general public...films like these can bring the true story to people who have never been to Burning Man and will likely never go, and have already mentally filed it away as "like a Woodstock" or "a big rave in the desert" or "some Pagan hippie thing."

Howard Lyman, the fourth generation cattle rancher who won't eat meat, author of MAD COWBOY and the new book NO MORE BULL will be speaking at a free meeting of Marin Vegetarian Education Group at 6 PM at the Town Center Shopping Center's Community Room in Corte Madera.

The Clean Fuel Caravan Coalition is a group of existing organizations

resources about sustainable living. We tour using clean fuels in
response to the cycle of global and environmental crisis perpetuated by the

is the torture of millions of chickens.
KFC is responsible for continuing a long history of cruelty to the
animals they raise and slaughter. PETA has asked repeatedly for

A dance party and campaign rally to benefit the GE Free Sonoma initiative campaign will rock the Sebastopol Community Center on Saturday, October 8. Organizers promise an evening of music, knowledge and community empowerment.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for an evening of music, laughs and noted speakers. Admission is $15, and only $10 for those who join the list of volunteers assisting with the GE Free campaign. All proceeds go to the campaign.

Performers are donating their energy and their time. The musical lineup includes Sol Horizon, Carnaval Spirit, DJ Dragonfly, and Patric Optimystic Music, with a special appearance by Swami Beyondananda.

Samplings of gourmet food and coffee will fill the tables of the main hall, along with a beer and wine bar. Knowledge about Genetically Modified food and the GE Free Initiative will also be there in abundance. Speakers will include Larry Robinson, Mayor of Sebastopol; Patricia Dines, activist and author of The Organic Guide book series; and Betty Biodiesel. The startling documentary The Future of Food will show several times during the day.

The GE Free initiative, when passed, will set in place a 10-year moratorium on Genetically modified food crops. At this event, issues of crop contamination, seed integrity, health and the corporate control of food will be discussed.

This is a dance party with a purpose, and it is sponsored by Harmony Festival, Green Mary, North Bay EcoFest, Daily Acts, and Archer Audio.

People's Grocery is a community-based organization working to find creative solutions to the food needs of the residents of West Oakland by building a local food system and local economy.
Loaded with fresh produce, staple goods, and healthy snacks, the People's Grocery Mobile Market is a truck converted into a grocery store on wheels that travels through West Oakland selling food. People's Grocery staff, volunteers and school groups maintain urban gardens. Food produced at these gardens is harvested for sale on the Mobile Market and is also foraged by neighbors and school children.
