Fighting for our Rights!

by Mike Rhodes (MikeRhodes [at] Comcast.net)
This is a call for community members to come forth to
… voice their concerns,
… begin a plan on getting back our civil rights,
… provide us with suggestions on how to take back our city from a police state,
… pick up police complaint forms and information on how to file the forms,
… pick up claims against the city and information on how to file the forms.

Fighting for our Rights!
By Mike Rhodes

People of Color spoke out today against the Fresno Police Department's Violation of their Civil Rights. At a press conference held in front of the Fresno Federal Courthouse, the Rev. Floyd Harris, California president of the National Action Network said that some Fresno Police Officers are engaged in racially discriminatory treatment of African Americans, Hispanic Americans and Asian Americans, harassing and abusing their authority under color of law; conducting race-based traffic stops; failing to adequately investigate and monitor discrimination complaints filed by citizens, and using excessive force. A press statement said "We believe that the City of Fresno is discriminating against our communities by failing to continue to provide assurances to our children, families and working poor that they can live in a society free of hate, fear and greed."

Gloria Hernandez of the Coalition for Immigrant Rights invited the community to an all day meeting on Saturday where participants will learn how to defend their rights when confronted by the police. The details of this meeting are:

Saturday, June 25
9 AM - 5 PM
This is our city too!

We Demand the Right to Be….
… Fair and Equal.
… with Dignity and Respect
… with No Discrimination
… No Violation of Civil Rights
… No Use of Force
… No Profiling

Community meeting at the Hinton Community Center, Church Ave and Fairview Street in West Fresno.
