Open Letter to Editors Everywhere.
To borrow the words of Walt Kelly's much loved character Pogo, "We have met the enemy...", but it is not necessarily us. It is to frequently the media and it's failure to fully and fearlessly inform it's audience about important and possibly controversial issues. Especially when such reporting might afflict the comfortable and complacent, or not "toe the party line". I refer in particular to the "Downing Street Memo" and the disturbing implications and issues raised by this document. I have searched in vain and found very little coverage on this matter in our local media, with the exception of the San Mateo Times and the San Jose Mercury News. The SF Chronicle has finally run a couple of pieces and I urge others to do likewise. A free, courageous and independent press is, and always has been, essential to the protection and preservation of our civil rights and liberties. I respectfully request that all forms of media continue this tradition and fulfill their critical, though sometimes difficult and challenging, role in society. In the meantime I suggest that those with Internet access inform themselves by visiting such sites as "afterdowningstreet.org", and then engage others in dialog. Knowledge is Power, and with such power and the truth we may still be able to acquire good standing in the World Community and use our influence for the good of all. I believe it is past time for ALL good people of ALL god faith/s to unite in an attempt to slow the momentum of this Corporate War Machine, by whatever means necessary. I hope you will share these thoughts with your audience so they may take the initiative, have access to all the news that some may not see "fit to print, and so come to a reasoned, informed, conclusion on matters of local, national and global importance. Tens of thousands of lives have already been lost or destroyed and millions more are at stake. Thankyou.
