CALIFORNIA STUDENTS WALKOUT WITH ACTION IN DEFENSE OF EDUCATION!
Statewide Student Network Demands an End to Unjust Budget Cuts and
Hikes in Fees!

SAN FRANCISCO, CA-- Students across the state and tiers of education plan
to demonstrate their outrage at the Governor's
continued attacks on education today during a
statewide day of action for education.
The protest will happen simultaneously in over a dozen
campuses, like Long Beach State, City College of San
Francisco, University of California Santa Cruz, and
others.
College campuses across the state respond to a call
for a day of action by Action In Defense of Education
(AIDE), a statewide network of colleges working to
transform the educational system.
Over the past two years, the State has continuously
shorthanded education and limited access to those more
in need. Fees have hiked at a scary rate, and the
number of classes offered reduced drastically.
According to the community college chancellor's Web
site, over 400,000 students were lost in community
college due to budget cuts.
"Most of us students at City are working class and
low-income. We are trying to get our education to
improve the situation for our families and our future.
Before the tuition increased, we were barely able to
survive financially, now many of us are forced to work
second jobs or put-off our education just to survive,"
says Bree Gutu one of the student organizers in San
Francisco.
Organizers of the walk-out are demanding that real
solutions to the so-called budget crises be
implemented. Among their demands are to fully fund
Proposition 98- a state law which guarantees funding
to California schools, tax the top 1% of wealthy
people in California, and no more cuts to the
education budget.
