Perhaps by now you've heard that at least one local draft board is training draft board volunteers about how to deal with requests for deferments for a "medical specialty" draft.  If not, then please know that I've got it from a reliable source that draft board volunteers are now being trained on how to handle requests by medical personnel who wish to avoid being drafted.

Many believe that a draft is coming soon, so one must become prepared NOW.

Many men and women in the age range of 18 through 45 (yes, up to age 45 if one is involved in one of 60 "specialty" careers) are not concerned about the possibility of being forced to serve out of a belief that they can always claim Conscientious Objector status.

According to the info on the Selective Service website, however, *even if* one is awarded the distinction of being classified a Conscientious Objector with an objection to serving in the military, one will *still* be placed in the "Alternative Service Program."   In other words, if a draft begins (which many believe will occur within the year), you may not have to don a military outfit, but you *will still be required to serve the government* in some other capacity.

How many Americans realize this?  I, for one, did not!   And while I, like many Americans, genuinely enjoy and derive great pleasure and satisfaction from helping out in volunteer service in my community, I am of the firm belief that *service*, by the very nature of the word, implies voluntary action (as in, service that stems from the heart, from one's own *free will*).  In other words, even the C.O. classification of doing "Alternative Service" is still forced servitude (i.e, slavery) any way you look at it.

Please feel free to pass this around widely to those who you think might want/need to know.  And if you do not believe that a person should not be *forced* into "alternative service" (ie, involuntary servitude), nor any other type of service (military or otherwise), please take action to fight an upcoming draft.  There are some anti-draft website links below.

Here is the Selective Service explanation of Conscientious Objector classification status and forced "Alternative Service."

EARTH ALERT: Pole Reversal Imminent / Rebooting Memory???
http://pesn.com/2005/02/27/6900064_Magnet_Pole_Shift/
"The weakening of earth's magnetism is one of the factors believed to be
predictive of a pole reversal. That magnetic field reversals have occurred in
the past is confirmed in the geological record. What is unclear is how precisely
the transition occurs, and what happens to life forms extant at the time of this
pole flip."

# Free Yoga, Food, Music Tue Mar 8 4:30p, 6p, 7p
--One of the mose intense, wonderfully bizarre, and hangover-free experiences I've had altering my conciousness involved no drugs at all. Nor did it require extreme exertion or painful stretching or hours of silence. It was a Kundalini Gong Meditation, and I'm incredibly excited that one is being offered tonight for FREE!
--Tonight, Yoga Mandala will have a free night of yoga, lectures, ritual, food and music. It's called "Shivaratri -Night of Shiva".
--Yoga Mandala is located on 2807 Telegraph (at Stuart), about a 10 minute walk from the UC Campus.
--The event is a fundraiser for the Seva Foundation's tsunami relief efforts. So if you DO have a couple bucks to contribute, it goes to a great cause.
--There will be two 'regular' yoga classes at 4:30 and 6, taught by the studio's most senior teachers. The Gong Meditation begins at 7:30. There will be all kinds of rituals, lectures, yummy food, music, and conversation. I highly recommend it. Oh, and did I mention the free Indio food from Tandoor Kitchen? Oakland Public Schools: Summary and Next Steps
On March 1st, 6 Oakland community members conducted a
sit-in in the office of the State Administrator of
Oakland Schools. They sat in not as an end in itself,
but as a means to galvanize the Oakland community for
much bigger actions to come.
Here is a complete summary from the San Francisco Bay
View. Following is a list of some of the many media
sources that covered this historic event.

# Kick Military Recruiters Out of SF State
Wed Mar 9 11 AM SF State University 1600 Holloway Ave
Malcolm X Plaza
The US Military is getting hard hit in Iraq with the death toll. They Know
that starting an unpopular draft for an unpopular war is suicide; they've
upped recruitment bonuses and promises of college money as tuition is going
up
nationwide. The reality of $80 billion more for the occupation is only
possible due to the massive cuts in health care, education and the soon
be "social-security reform."

The Army Corps of Engineers and the US Navy are coming to San Francisco
State
University in the hopes of recruiting students to become cannon fodder for
the
US occupation effort. We have a different plan: we are organizing a protest
to
block the recruiters and kick them off our campus.

Hundreds of students at low-income colleges and high schools nationwide have
participated in protests like this one, and have successfully forced
military
recruiters to pack up and leave their campuses. Now is is SF State's turn.
Join us to demand:

End the Occupation! Troops Out Now! No Recruiters on Our Campus!

# Featured Event: Art Opening (Wednesday March 9th 7:30 pm) Mihail Kivachitsky is a professional sculptor living in California. His favorite material is wood and the ideas for his works come from his immediate surroundings. Sometimes he turns to history and mythology since he is convinced that they contain the treasures of human wisdom. Objects from the material world, nature and people are transformed in Mihail Kivachitskys works by his original vision. His sculptures, paintings and drawings are interrelated, often to the point of becoming indivisible. An idea is born in a drawing, acquires substances and emotion in a painting and is completed through shape in a sculpture. Every work, whether it`s a sketch of a live subject,a portrait or a still life is first and foremost a thought that urges the viewer to discover hidden truths. His art reflects his personal experiences of self-discovery.

Dear 9-11 activists,

Struggling here, making press phone calls to get some of them to our
upcoming premieres of The Great Conspiracy- most don't want to be in the
limelight. The publisher of the Palo Alto Daily News called me to say
that they had run a story about the film, two weeks ago (unfortunately I
missed it!).

Michael Kane published a story on Indira Singh

"I Made a Promise"
The Journey of a Wall Street Whistleblower
http://www.911truth.org/article.php?story=20050301231231793

Peter Phillips just had one published on Common Dreams

Threshold Fears and Unanswered Questions About 9/11
http://www.commondreams.org/views05/0306-23.htm

And my story was published on Axis of Logic-

Tripping the Four Horsemen

The SF Chronicle highlighted our event in last week's pink section and
the photo exhibition-

# The Irish Republican Socialist Committees of North America's San Francisco
Bay Area chapter will again be participating in the San Francisco St.
Patrick's Day Parade and is once again organising an Anti-Imperialist
Contingent as part of its participation.
The parade is taking place this year on Sunday, March 13th. While we never
have many details this much before the actual parade date, the contingent
will undoubtedly assemble between 10:45 and 11:15 a.m., somewhere south of
Market and, of course, details will be forthcoming once we know them.
The focus of the Anti-Imperialist Contingent this year will again be on
ending the occupation of Iraq and of Ireland, and the slogans we are putting forward are:
British and American Imperialism, Out of Iraq! Out of Ireland!
No War but the Class War!

# Scratch Video – Revolution Remixed:
A post-modern call to battle, for our planet, for our communities, for our
freedom

Join us for a screening of three radical remixes of popular Hollywood movies
by local film makers. These brief, yet high impact culture jams address
globalization, 9-11, war on terrorism, the industrial military complex,
racism, consumer culture, business as usual, our disconnection with nature
in favor of technology, and more. After the film, there will be a
conversation between the film makers and the audience on the films, scratch
video, and local action in Oakland.

The Fellowship of the Ring of Free Trade (6 minutes)

Now, for the first time ever, the hidden prophecies of J.R.R. Tolkien's
classic epic, The Lord of the Rings, are decoded in this accurate re-edit of
Peter Jackson's blockbuster motion picture. Unknownst to many readers, The
Lord of the Rings - once thought to be merely a story of archetypal struggle
between good and evil - has been found to contain astute prophetic messages
about the impending crisis of capitalist modernity. The Fellowship of the
Ring of Free Trade includes subtitles of the decoded dialogues in
painstaking detail and the true identities that the story's characters
represent within the prophecy.

The Twin Towers (15 minutes)

This sequel to The Fellowship of the Ring of Free Trade explores post-911

Spiritual Economics: Your Natural Abundance is Ready for YOU!

In this perilously materialistic world, we as a collective humanity have lost our respect for money.  We are so overcome by fear of lack, fear of scarcity, fear of poverty, that we actually repel prosperity as opposed to manifesting it.

Through Your Natural Abuadance, you will be coached to deeply examine the beliefs and attitudes you harbor towards money, as well as the people, places, and events that have influenced these beliefs and attitudes.  We will look at the energetic aspects of money, the spiritual applications of economics, as well as the practical realities of your past, present, and future financial situations.

Once we individually become clear on where we stand with money, including how much money we need to maintain the life we desire, we are no longer merely surviving, we’re thriving!  We are letting the money-flow pour through our life without blocking it.  That is my intention with this course—assisting you with the manifestation of unapologetically blissful abundance!  And perhaps even the realization that less is more!

Energy offering: $25-$33 Come Play, Play, Play!!!

of the Black Flag collective in Switzerland, with the help of the Montreal
Collective Opposed to Police Brutality. The date was chosen because on
March 15th, two children, aged 11 and 12, were beaten by the Swiss police.

# YLEM Forum: Art Enlivening Biology
Tuesday, March 15, 7:30 pm
McBean Theater, Exploratorium
3501 Lyon St., San Francisco, CA 94123
FREE, Open to the public and wheelchair accessible

Sponsored by YLEM: Artists Using Science and Technology
Contact: Trudy Myrrh Reagan,
trudymyrrh [at] earthlink.net, 650-856-9593

The YLEM Forum, "Art Enlivening Biology," features Jo Hanson, whose
work in combining art and ecology is legendary, Julie Newdoll, a
painter who combines diagrams of biologically active molecules with
images from mythology, and Jonathon Keats' "misapplications of science."

PROGRAM
Artists Restoring the Land
Jo Hanson is a long-time environmental artist, a curator, lecturer,
writer and advocate. Hanson will talk about her work and that of other
artists who try to restore the land. She notes that cold facts do not
produce environmental change in the economy and our personal habits
that are so urgent. "Such a paradigm change occurs in the heart, in
the presence of knowledge. It is the arts that key in the heart. The
rhetoric must be some version of a song of love."
Her alarm about the waste society began with daily cleaning of her
windy block of San Francisco in 1970. She began by making whimsical
sculptures from what she collected, then moved to larger efforts, like
a pioneer artist-in-residence program at San Francisco's waste
disposal company.
Along the Russian River, Hanson's work expanded to include
restoration of native growth, creek and creek bank rehabilitation.
Sadly, she learned that reintroducing native plants does not restore
the self-sustaining ecology it once had. Preventing new destruction is
paramount.
A former San Francisco Arts Commissioner, she has also advised the
Exploratorium artist in residence program and co-curated ecological
exhibitions at venues like the San Francisco International Airport.
She co-produces the Women Environmental Artists Directory, and serves
as art and ecology advisor for EarthLight Magazine  and the Bioneers
Conference.

Merging Myth and Macromolecules in Art
Julie Newdoll merges life sciences and mythology in her paintings.
She believes that biological systems and ancient cultures, their
myths, and legends, have evolved in similar ways; that they reflect
each other, and speak from our deepest roots. Inspired by nature on a
small scale, she incorporates the delicate images captured with a
microscope and structures of macromolecules such as DNA, RNA, and
proteins in her compositions.
Her artwork has been featured on numerous journal covers, including
such publications as Nature Reviews Genetics, and art publications
such as Art Business News. In 2005 her work will be shown at the New
York Hall of Science, and the Florence Biennale. She completed a
residency in the Czech Republic with the National Gallery in Prague.
Newdoll earned a B.A. in microbiology from the University of
California at Santa Barbara, and an M.S. in medical illustration from
the University of California at San Francisco.
http://www.brushwithscience.com.

The God Project
Jonathon Keats will discuss his witty 2004 work,"The God Project,"
featured on the cover of San Francisco Weekly and on KQED's March 2
Spark program. Is science an art? Is art a science? In this talk,
Keats will address these questions by telling about his forays into
genetics and neurology laboratories at UC Berkeley and UC San
Francisco. In "The God Project," he attempted to genetically engineer
God in a petri dish. He'll also describe "Brain Trust" (2003) and his
works that play with non-standard time and distance measurement. His
projects are "thought experiments" that rigorously misapply practices
borrowed from biology, chemistry, and physics (as well as law and
economics). Keats strives to take up where natural philosophy left off
- and to bring others into the process.
Jonathon Keats is a conceptual artist, novelist, and critic. His
conceptual art projects have been featured on the BBC World Service
and he is represented by Modernism Gallery. Additionally, Keats serves
as the art critic for San Francisco Magazine and a columnist for
Artweek.  He is the author of the novel The Pathology of Lies (Warner
Books), and the forthcoming Lighter Than Vanity (Eksmo). He has
recently been awarded fellowships  at Yaddo and the MacDowell Colony

Screening: The Emotional World of Farm Animals
Pacifica Library, 104 Hilton Wy (at Palmetto), Pacifica.
Free with RSVP  RSVP:
http://www.bayareaveg.org/rsvp.htm?id=694
Please join Bay Area Vegetarians for this special event.  Jeffrey Moussaieff Masson’s latest book, The Pig Who Sang to the Moon, is a groundbreaking work that explores the emotional lives of pigs, cows, chickens, sheep, goats, and ducks. In both the book and its companion piece, the documentary film "The Emotional World of Farm Animals", Masson learns about and develops relationships with animals most often ignored—except when they’re being eaten. As he shares his new knowledge and insights with us, it’s easy to understand his affection for these animals—and his conviction that we must change the horrendous reality most of them live.
FYI, there is no graphic footage in this film.
It is suitable for audiences of all ages.
Doors open at 2:30, film starts at 3:00 pm;  free admission with RSVP   Light vegan refreshments served.   Please bring a friend to see this film.
