Hundreds of Workers Protest Governor’s Proposal to Weaken their Rights

by Beyond Chron (reposted)
On Tuesday, hundreds of San Francisco’s workers came before the Division of Labor Standards Enforcement (DLSE) to protest Governor Schwarzeneggers’s proposal to ease laws protecting a worker’s right to lunch breaks. While groups like the California Labor Federation (CLF) gathered at a press conference to condemn the governor’s continual erosion of worker’s rights, the DLSE heard from a diverse group of workers pleading for protection from abusive employers.
“If you look at all the violations under the current labor laws, we need to organize for strengthening labor laws not weakening them,” said Chloe Osmer of the CLF.

Hundreds of workers from various unions and all over the Bay Area, some coming from as far as Sonoma and Salinas, complained about working long hours without bathroom breaks or physical rest.
