Help for Tsunami animals

Our hearts and prayers go out to the thousands and thousands of people and animals affected by this terrible tragedy. Animals Asia is helping with some financial support and Jill Robinson has today flown to Phuket with suitcases of veterinary supplies to assist the Soi Dog Foundation who are in desperate need of aid.

Meanwhile, we are also being contacted by people wanting to donate to those on the front line and have begun a list of groups on our website. We either know these groups well or have clarification that they are of good reputation and credibility.

Cuddalore, Nagapattinam and Rameswaram districts
Wildlife S.O.S. and Friendicoes Seca have dispatched 3 teams to disaster areas in the Cuddalore, Nagapattinam and Rameswaram districts. Staff and volunteers are working to provide treatment for the surviving animals. Sourcing food and water are a priority as the soil and wells have been soaked with salt. Geeta Seshamani, the Founder of Friendicoes states: "For the survivors their livestock has become their lifeline and finding even a pet dog or cat is now assuming a larger than life meaning."

The Chennai region of south India has been badly hit. A recent report from Chairman of the Blue Cross of India, Dr. Chinny Krishna, states that they are feeding surviving dogs on the city beaches, cutting loose tethered goats and cattle and rescuing snakes.

Andhra Pradesh
The Visakha SPCA located on the East coast of Andhra Pradesh, India, is also working hard to offer much needed relief for animals. Funds are required to provide over 700 kilometres of coastal villages with vet care, medicines and food for livestock and domestic animals. Pradeep Kumar Nath, President and Founder, states "It is a very grim situation and the challenges ahead are enormous."

THAILAND
A quote from Soi Dog Foundation:
"If you have any contacts with organisations willing to help, we desperately need to buy large quantities of food. Hundreds of dogs who relied on local restaurants are now starving as all the restaurants are gone. Some of our local volunteers are either dead or injured."
