Fallujans abandon city expecting post-election destruction

by Turkish news
as US and Iraqi security forces prepare for a large-scale military assault on Fallujah, locals began leaving Fallujah last night. Fallujah's residents say they are going to other cities where they have relatives. The City's population of 350,000 has reportedly dropped 50-60,000 due to the lack of security. Those that remain in Fallujah complain that they have been unable to leave their homes for weeks because of ongoing bombardments.
Time Runs out in Felluce, People Flee

Iraqi Interim Prime Minister Iyad Allawi said the government is getting impatient with insurgents in Felluce (Fallujah) and unless an immediate solution is found, a major military operation will become necessary.

At a press briefing yesterday on the latest developments, Allawi warned that they are not negotiating with anyone as Fallujah is part of Iraq and asked the insurgents to evacuate the city at the earliest date possible. He explained that although the government still wants to solve the issue peacefully, a military solution may become the only option.

Meanwhile, as US and Iraqi security forces prepare for a large-scale military assault on Fallujah, locals began leaving Fallujah last night. Fallujah's residents say they are going to other cities where they have relatives. The City's population of 350,000 has reportedly dropped 50-60,000 due to the lack of security. Those that remain in Fallujah complain that they have been unable to leave their homes for weeks because of ongoing bombardments. An Iraqi, cursing what he has experienced with the bombardment of a parking lot by US war planes, said: "There are neither mujaheedens, nor Zarqawi's men here. We cannot go out anymore. We cannot let our children out. We are severely suffering in Ramadan."

A rocket attack struck the Sunubar Hotel in Tikrit killing 15 Iraqis and wounding eight others. Officials announced that the real target may have been a US position nearby. The victims at the hotel were reportedly Shiite workers with no connections to US forces. Nine US soldiers were killed in a clash in Al-Anbar.
