# We Interrupt This Empire Mar 18 7:15 and 9:20 $6.50
ONE YEAR LATER: "WE INTERRUPT THIS EMPIRE..." SCREENS MARCH 18TH
AT THE RED VIC MOVIE HOUSE IN SAN FRANCISCO
screening is in collaboration with Direct Action to Stop the War
On March 20th, 2003, millions globally protested the United States'
invasion of Iraq while tens of thousands shut down San Francisco for
three days. One year later, in solidarity with the upcoming actions against
the ongoing war and occupation of Iraq, WE INTERRUPT THIS EMPIRE... screens
March 18th at 7:15pm and 9:20pm at the Red Vic Movie House in San
Francisco. Speakers from Direct Action to Stop the War and the
filmmakers will be in attendance.
"We Interrupt This Empire..." is a collaborative work by many of the Bay
Area's independent video activists which documents the direct actions
that shut down the
financial district of San Francisco in the weeks following the United
States' invasion of Iraq. With the audio backdrop including the live
broadcasts of SF Indymedia's Enemy Combatant Radio and the SFPD's tactical
communications that were picked up by police scanners, the documentary
takes a look at the diverse show of resistance from the streets of San
Francisco as well as providing a critique of the coporate media coverage
of the war and exploring such issues as the Military Industrial Complex,
attacks on civil liberties, and the United States' current imperialist drive.
The filmmakers of "WE INTERRUPT THIS EMPIRE..." came together in April
2003 to pool footage and document the historic direct actions of March
20th . The video premiered June 10th, 2003 at the Red Vic Movie House
with four sold-out screenings. It has since played all over the country and
world, proving that there was radical and mass resistance to this illegal war.
Red Vic Movie House is located at 1727 Haight St $6.50.

midst of this national horror-show--this is the best damn doc I've seen

# ON THE FLY: The Convergence of VJ & DEMO CultureThursday, March 18, 2004
PANEL Discussion: 7:30-8:30DEMO Party, 8:30-11pm@ Rx GALLERY132 Eddy @ Mason $5 benefits ZeroOne Panelists: Mark Amerika, Matthew Biederman, Aviv Eyal, and Shirley Shor
Moderated by Marisa S. Olson,  ZeroOne Adjunct Curator
While both have distinctly different looks and cultures, the practices of Video-Jockeying and DEMO'ing are frequently compared, particularly as the two become increasingly popular in Europe. Both involve the quick mixing and construction of sounds and images to create low-memory, high-impact displays, yet one grows out of a hacker history and the other is closely tied to the music scene. VJ/artists Mark Amerika and Matthew Biederman will discuss VJ'ing in relation to other media art genres and collaborators Shirley Shor and Aviv Eyal will survey 20 years of the hottest DEMO's, from game hacks to party pieces. The panel will be followed by a DEMO party, featuring even more hot DEMO's, and the genre-bending VJ-remixing of the DEMO's, by Biederman & Amerika.

# RALLY - AN INJURY TO ONE IS AN INJURY TO ALL!! Fri MAR 19
Rally 12 noon Superior Court (7th and Washington Oakland.)
Hearing 2 p.m. in Dept 115
STOP POLICE TERROR. DEFEND CIVIL LIBERTIES, CIVIL RIGHTS AND UNION RIGHTS
On April 7, 2003, in the Port of Oakland, police launched the most
violent attack against anti-war protesters in the U.S. since the beginning
of the war in Iraq. Demonstrators, legal observers and longshoremen who were
going to work were hit by police fire. Police used  "crowd control" weapons
in a lethal manner, shooting directly at people, injuring dozens and sending
several to the hospital.  Making a mockery of justice, the DA has charged
the victims of police brutality instead of the real culprits, the police and
CATIC, the California state anti-terrorism agency  that gave them the green
light! As March 20 approaches, the anniversary of the start of this war for
oil and empire, we must defend the democratic right to protest in the port
and in the street. Bush's lies have caused this senseless slaughter in Iraq,
while ripping up the Bill of Rights.

# Pot, Prostitution and Paraphernalia Enough already!
It's time for the 2nd Annual Boobies Against Ashcroft March!
We have to take to the streets and remind John Ashcroft that putting women and patients in prison is not the answer to his moral dilemma. John Ashcroft's attack on women's bodies and prosecution of medical marijuana patients has got to stop. This is an election year, let's encourage everyone to go to the polls and vote out the Bush administration in November.
Meet us Thursday March 25th 4:00 at Chevy's restaurant on the corner of Golden Gate and Van Ness in San Francisco. From that point we will march topless to the 450 Golden Gate, the Federal Building. We will carry signs that have John's picture on them and signs that say, Can you spot the boob? If you cannot go topless, please wear a white t-shirt with red spots painted in the breast area. We are dead serious about this and we need your support now. We want to send this message all the way to Washington DC.
1. We demand John Ashcroft undrape the Statue of Justice.
2. We demand John Ashcroft stop harassing the sick and dying.
3. We demand John Ashcroft stay out of the lives of consenting adults.
4. We demand John Ashcroft keep his laws off our bodies and his paws off of Roe v Wade.
Don't be a sheep, be a shepherd and meet us
Thursday March 25th, 4pm at Chevy's on the corner of
Van Ness at Golden Gate in SF
First he came for the prostitutes
and I did not speak out — because I was not a prostitute.
Then he came for the medical marijuana patients
and I did not speak out — because I was not a medical marijuana patient.
Then he came for the paraphernalia manufacturers
and I did not speak out — because I was not a paraphernalia manufacturer.
Now he's after Roe V. Wade — and there is still time to speak out!
