Alliance for Sustainable Jobs & Environment releases "Rogues Gallery"

by Matt Fitt
Oakland, CA -- The Alliance for Sustainable Jobs and the Environment held a press conference today in front of the local HQ of Coca Cola to announce the release of their Rogues Gallery of corporate criminals.

The Alliance for Sustainable Jobs and the Environment was born in the course of a bitter struggle for labor rights and environmental justice with the Maxxam Corporation, owner of Kaiser Aluminum and Pacific Lumber Company. With the expansion of the struggle against corporations who are violating labor laws, it is a safe bet that those very same corporations are significant violators of environmental regulations and laws, whether by polluting the air, releasing toxics or engaging in irresponsible logging. Invariably, corporations whose codes of conduct lead them to violation labor standards maintain the same disregard for the environment.

Although economic sustainability and biological sustainability are not necessarily the same things, the same forces and practices undermine both.

The Rogue Corporations Working Group of the ASJE today released their report "Rogues Gallery" highlights eleven companies with particularly egregious behavior, including some that are currently targets of active corporate resposibility campaigns.

The report serves to illustrate the breadth of common ground between environmental organizations and labor unions and to identify potential campaigns for collaborative work.
