became the chief congressional pusher of the secret U.S.-Saudi
'matching funds' financing of the anti-Soviet mujahedeen in Afghanistan,
including the 'Arab muhahedeen', direct progenators of 'Al Qaeda'.
-- According to John Cooley in "Unholy Wars," there is another link in a
network set up by Iran (under the Shah), Egypt, Saudi Arabia, & Morocco.
This network eliminated "leftist" resistance in Angola, the Congo, &
various other places in Africa. Most of its backers helped set up the
Muj.in Afghanistan. The continuity is clear.
