Peace Activists Converge at Good Friday Arcata, CA Rally
Good Friday Peace Rally draws 40 plus actvists in Arcata, CA in solidarity with Palestine and other victims of U.S. aggression.
In an ongoing peaceful protest against War and Terrorism, 40 plus North Coast citizens gathered in beautiful weather on the Arcata Plaza on Good Friday, March 29th. Arcata?s newly formed (Sept., 01) Redwood Peace and Justice Center, which houses several environmental and social justice groups, sponsors this weekly gathering, held every Friday from 5-6pm. This peaceful presence has grown in recent weeks as the Bush War expands.
Carrying signs showing solidarity with victims of Israeli terrorism in Palestinian Ramallah, as well as with the millions of victims of U.S.-sponsored terrorism worldwide since 1945, local people invoked their fellow citizens to Stand Up and Speak Out against War. One sign read: War is the Drug and Bush is the Pusher. People chanted (Peace Now! No War!) and sang songs. One protestor played his ukulele and sang John Lennon?s IMAGINE and Bob Dylan?s BLOWIN? IN THE WIND; he had translated them both into Spanish. Drummers drummed and the chants continued as cars went by and people honked and waved in solidarity. As one of our signs said and more and more people agree, Killing Innocent People is Not the Answer! PAZ EN LA TIERRA; ABAJO CON LA GUERRA!
The Redwood Peace Coalition announces that on Saturday, April 20th, a March and Rally will be held in Arcata, in solidarity with the March on Washington, D.C. (April 19-22nd). For more info, call (707) 826-25ll or visit http://www.redwoodpeace.org
