An angry group of San Francisco residents affiliated with the community group ACORN rushed the office of the Mayor's Budget Director Ben Rosenfield in order to get agreement on a "NO CUTS, NO CLOSURES" policy for San Francisco's last safety net of health services yesterday. The City Health Department recently proposed cuts of 20% to health centers and the closure of a critical dialysis clinic and a local health clinic....

What's happening right now is that the feds have lowered the payment standard so that for example, with a $1600 one-bedroom, HUD will only pay $1300 for it now. The tenant HAS TO MAKE UP THE $300 DIFFERENCE. Every tenant with a voucher in SF (over 7,300 vouchers!) will get a rent increase this year, anywhere from about $100-400/mo. Transit advocates took the Muni fare fight to riders this morning, as twenty or so members of the Coalition for Transit Justice held a protest at the corner of 16th and Mission Streets this morning against planned Muni fare hikes and service cuts and to rally rider support for future actions at City Hall....

The Mayor’s Office of Housing recently revealed its plan for allocating the multi-million dollar Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), a federal contribution to cities earmarked for helping low-income people.
