In more than 150 cities across the US, MoveOn.org is organizing a Vigil for the Bill of Rights to protest illegal wiretapping, and the errosion of our Constitutional rights. They happen Wednesday, February 22nd. Meet at 5:30 PM in Santa Cruz at the Clock Tower, and in Felton at the intersection of Highway 9 and Graham Hill Road....

On February 20, about a dozen people held a vigil at the town clock in Santa Cruz to protest the state-sponsored premeditated murder of Michael Morales. Stanley "Tookie" Williams and Clarence Ray Allen were also killed at San Quentin by the death penalty in the last three months....

HUFF, the Human Rights Organization, SAFE, and Housing Now! in Santa Cruz sent two letters to Mayor Cynthia Mathews urging fairer treatment and an end to repressive behavior at City Council. Instead of answering our phone calls and letter, Mathews agreed to meet. The meeting was taped and will be replayed 10 AM Sunday February 19 on Free Radio Santa Cruz. A shorter segment will be played on Thursday evening at 7:30 PM....

Police in Santa Cruz, CA released a 600 page report Friday, detailing its internal probe of surveillance conducted on DIY New Year's parade meetings. City officials who initially praised the report as 'thorough and complete' are now backpedalling, and have authorized an independent investigation. FSRN's Vinny Lomabrdo has more....

Aaronson, in a letter to Council circulated at Monday's Public Safety Committee, said the investigation "is incomplete and flawed for a very predictable reason."
