Countless rocks and bricks have been thrown at police throughout the afternoon, as seen in the looping video below, and several police vehicles have been torched. On March 17th 2015 about 55 people rallied in front of Richmond City Hall demanding that City Council fire police officer Wallace Jenson, who shot Richard Perez III dead in September 2014. Perez, better known as "Pedie," was unarmed, but at the inquest officer Jensen said that Pedie had tried to take his gun and that he feared for his life. Witnesses dispute this, and Pedie's family have filed a civil lawsuit. (Video: 13:26)

In this video that captures the shooting, demonstrators appear to identify the shots as having come from the hill behind them, over the protesters and hitting police in the distance. (Video by Matthew Keys.) At a press conference at around 2:00 a.m. local time, St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar said a 41-year-old officer from St. Louis County was shot in the shoulder, and a 32-year-old Webster Groves officer was shot in the face. Both were conscious and expected to survive.
