BART finally has a public meeting scheduled that working people can attend. It's scheduled for Saturday, May 2nd, at 1pm. It will be held at the Metro Center Auditorium (101 Eighth Street), across the street from the Lake Merritt BART station in Oakland. It's taken a lot of pressure over the last several months from Oscar Grant's family, community members, and activists to get to this point, so keep the pressure on by showing up and holding BART's feet to the fire. Tell them that vagu...

The April 8-14 issue of the East Bay Express features a 5,576-word cover story on Minister of Information JR. It doesn't bother to actually build a case for how he is a provocateur or who he is a supposed agent for; it's just a hit piece from someone who fancies himself of the "mainstream" perspective and doesn't get where JR is coming from on the issues he covers....

The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission does not like to be told that it is wasting millions of gallons of water. textWho Polices the Police?
 by Gil Villagrán, MSW
The San Jose Police Department has been featured almost weekly in news reports of six taser deaths since 2005, racial profiling, selective vehicle stops, and drunken arrests. An October Mercury News report that San Jose police arrested 4,600 in one year for public intoxication, and a disproportionate 56% were Latinos, resulted in hundreds attending a public hearing. If Chief Rob Davis cannot restrain aggressive officers quick on the draw with tasers or firearms, arresting non-violent inebri...

The FOX-News heavily promoted anti- tax "tea parties" meant party-time for some of the worst of the right wing in San Jose, California today. Their signs signaled everything from racism, to homophobia, to misogyny. From noon about 100 gathered in front of the IRS building in downtown San Jose. They were countered by a smaller contingent of anti-war/anti-racism seasoned activists. But the tea party participants weren't listening....
