We Save Trees activists have risen up again! A treesit has been set up in a massive tree in the Bonanza THP near Scotia! In the middle of the night, climbers scaled the Gigantic tree, and set ropes and living quarters, in order to occupy the tree so it wont be cut. This area is adjacent to an older treesit village in a virgin redwood grove, that was clearcut in late 2002. Timber cutting continues in and near the Sequoia National Monument!
Despite a recent federal court ruling, timber cutting continues in and near the Sequoia National Monument. Sierra Nevada Earth First! activists were in the woods again this past weekend surveying timber sale units in the Frog, White, and Ice sale areas. Pictures illistrate the story told....

Earth First!ers are needed to organize in the Sacramento and San Joaquin Valley (aka Central Valley) to bring visibility to corporate logging corporations like Sierra Pacific Industries, suburban sprawl in wetlands habitat, potential extinction of endangered species as loss of vernal pools continues, effect of toxic pesticide drift used by corporate agribusiness, dams blocking anadromous fish migrations, etc.....

Critical Mass 13th Anniversary
A large crowd of cyclists converged in the streets of San Francisco for the 13th anniversary of Critical Mass on Friday. Several confrontations between drivers and cyclists occurred, but consisted mostly of arguing over right-of-way. One pedestrian on Market Street shouted, "You're blocking traffic," to which a cyclist replied, "We are traffic!"...

The Humboldt Watershed Council responded to news that Scotia Pacific Company (Scopac) has broken off agreements to work with the company’s bondholders to develop a ‘pre-packaged’ reorganization of the company’s debt. The Council predicted that Scopac was headed for a “free-fall”, but that reorganization would likely yield a company free from the destructive grip of its parent company Maxxam....

Klamath River Native people and other residents protest for dam removal
Monday at the Lloyd Tower Klamath river residents and supporters joined Native people of the Klamath River to ask Pacific Power to remove thier fish killing dams. The Klamath dams are currently in a process that occurs every 50 years, in dam removal is possible. However after years of negotiations Pacific Power shocked river communities by ignoring fish passage and down river communities in their plans. Now community members are taking their issues straight to the doorsteps of Pacific Power....
