A Torturous Tale of Seeking Public Records from the SCPD
This is the saga of the struggle to get police records and the kind of bureaucratic resistance you can find there. I'm still trying to decipher the records I did get in order to get some sense of the accuracy of Zach Friend's comments about the City Hall Sleep Out in early August....

The Downtown Commission will be on the business end of staff and police "persuaders" come next Thursday September 27th, when the SCPD returns with thin stats to push through the Coonerty "Parking Lot Panic" Law. Listed below are the phone numbers of Downtown Commission members (City Hall doesn't have their e-mails for some reason). Call them and tell them to vote no or at least wait until we can get more public records....

Potty Talk
Bookshop SantaCruz Owner, Former Mayor, and Current Supervisor Neal Coonerty made some comments about vandalism, his bookshop, and homeless rights advocates Becky Johnson and Robert Norse on-line as a response to a Sentinel story about grafitti painted on City Hall yesterday. The Sentinel deleted the comment (as well as at least 25 others). I saved the webpage, yesterday, however--and here it is!...

The Coonerty Watch Continues: Upchucky Updates
Constitutional purists will gather again outside 1520 Pacific Sunday September 16 at 2 PM to debate Constitutional Lawyer, Vice-Mayor, Aspiring Mayor-to-Be, and Bookshop Impressario Ryan Coonerty. A misplaced police department wet dream? Join us to probe these mysteries. Warning: Vice-Mayor Coon...

Superintendant Hammack Stonewalls on RV Ban in Coastal Parking Lots
I received complaints that Donna Deiss and Shane Maxfield were being driven out of Parking Lot A near Lighthouse Field by Chief Ranger John Wallace. Wallace has posted "no RV" signs there reportedly and may be e-mailing me his own response to be posted. After an informal phone call to Steve Hammack, in response to which Steve was friendly but unresponsive, I made several formal Public Records Act requests. The results I reprint below....

Administration Proposes Cuts across the Board; UAW Stands Firm
Our bargaining team met with the university administration again September 5-7. The administration presented responses to several of our economic proposals.
