Starting with a rally at San Francisco's UN Plaza the June 5 protest worked its way down market street to Justin Herman Plaza. There were approximately 15 to 20 thousand people. Along the route a small group of pro-Bush pro-war counter-protesters stopped part of the march when a large police contingent separated them from the antiwar protesters. After the march had ended at the plaza a breakaway march and action started along the Embarcadero....

At the June 5th Anti-War protest in San Francisco, Women in Black had a sizable contingent. Unfortunately calls for peace were drowned out by rightwing groups waving American and Israeli flags and carrying signs denigrating Palestinians, the "Left" and even the United Nations....

text6/5 9,000 Peaceniks Support 56 Years of Palestine Resistance by Socialist
On a beautiful sunny June 5th in San Francisco, 37years after one of Israel's invasions of its neighbors, 9,000 people marched down Market Street for peace in the Middle East and civil liberties, jobs and justice at home, with small, but outrageous harassment by a group of fascists waving the Israeli and American flags, call for peace through strength with their signs, just like Hitler....

Several hundred protesters marched up Embarcadero starting at Justin Herman Plaza a little after 2PM. After five or six blocks the police forced everyone onto the sidewalk and arrested a few people after they stepped into the street. The protest went all the way up to Pier 39, but the police blocked the entrances and told protesters they would be arrested if they entered. The tourists at Pier 39 were not allowed to leave by the police until the protest had left the area. The march then looped...
