Democrats will wince at my metaphor, but I can't help thinking that black voters are the elephant in the room. The party talks about faring poorly with churchgoing people although 88 percent of black voters -- a religious group if ever there was one -- cast their votes for Kerry. Party officials fear that liberal values have acquired a "very upper-middle class flavor," to borrow author Thomas Frank's phrase, which undoubtedly confounds the many poor and working-class blacks who have...

Some pundits wave election, exit poll results and argue that America is a "red" country immersed in conservative "red values." But there are several factors they seem to overlook: 1) Nader voters statistically trumped Bush voters on the "moral values" question, 2) "personal financial situation" seemed to be a decisive factor in the presidential election, and 3) exit polls are notoriously flawed....

NEW YORK (AP) - A 25-year-old from Georgia who was apparently distraught over President George W. Bush's re-election shot and killed himself at ground zero.
Andrew Veal's body was found Saturday morning inside the off-limits site, said Steve Coleman, a spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. A shotgun was found nearby, but no suicide note was found, Coleman said....

When I spoke with Jeff Fisher this morning (Saturday, November 06, 2004), the Democratic candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives from Florida's 16th District said he was waiting for the FBI to show up. Fisher has evidence, he says, not only that the Florida election was hacked, but of who hacked it and how...

By 8:00 PM on Election Day, I was convinced that I was watching the slickest damn con job ever put over on the American people. The TV coverage was pitiful. By now its becoming increasingly clear that Bush stole another election. Once the results in western states could be predicted the vote tally in Florida could be juggled in favor of Bush. Once the outcome in the west was known the vote tally in Ohio could be juggled similarly....

I wondered why Kerry conceded so early, even countering his running mate. All the votes are not counted. There are many questions about voting machine fraud. Bev Harris has filed 3,000 FOI requests to obtain audit logs from county election officials. In other words, the truth is still out there, at least officially. It is quite clear that this election was stolen. What isn't immediately clear is Kerry's part in it. This is one good analysis....

I think that an a useful comparison for leftists today to use when talking to people about Bush is the election of Richard Nixon in 1968. The election that year took place in a context of growing social polarization and anger around the Vietnam War. In the spring of 1968, the Tet Offensive in Vietnam had demonstrated the incredible unpopularity and weakness of the U.S. occupation in that country....
