Harriet Miers' Enron problem
It appears that the right-leaning but Bush-disliking Professor Bainbridge was the first to notice this extraordinary tidbit from Harriet Miers' past (a hat tip also to David Sirota at HuffPost). This morning, President Bush touted Miers' leadership abilities, including her position as managing partner of Locke Liddell, a major Texas law firm. Turns out, however, that Locke Liddell had a teensy little legal problem while Miers was running it: the firm represented a client who was defrauding ...

Don't be fooled by Pharma in November!
Vote Yes on Prop 79! The prescription drug industry is spending $80 million to blitz California with TV ads for their alternative prescription drug plan. But their plan isn't even enforceable. Its completely voluntary for the companies. We don't have their mega-millions, but we have people power behind Prop 79--the real prescription drug discount plan supported by consumer, senior and labor groups in California....

What is anarchism?
Anarchism is a political theory which aims to create anarchy, "the absence of a master, of a sovereign." [P-J Proudhon, What is Property , p. 264] In other words, anarchism is a political theory which aims to create a society within which individuals freely co-operate together as equals. As such anarchism opposes all forms of hierarchical control - be that control by the state or a capitalist - as harmful to the individual and their individuality as well as unnecessary....

Tonight in Alameda: 'Theft of an Island' (town hall mtg on development)
I went to the planning board meeting on the Megaplex the other night, and the only people really supporting that thing are the business people and a handful of their friends. Everyone who spoke out against the project was an average resident. One guy who seemed to just be a regular guy supporting the Megaplex, let it slip that he had actually worked on the development of the project! The city officials seem completely bought off. This event seems like a healthy response to the outrageous...
