May Day Strike for Immigrant Rights at UC Santa Cruz
On Monday, May 1st, International Workers Day, students and workers at UC Santa Cruz walked picket lines at the base of campus and west entrance to support the rights of immigrants and all people. In the United States, grassroots organizers of May Day 2006 called for a day of, "No Work, No School, No Buying, No Selling" to help illustrate the critical role that migrants play in the United States and global economy....

15,000 March on May 1st for Immigrant Justice in Oakland
Oakland, California (May 1, 2006) - About 15,000 people marched through Oakland today as part of the national mobilization and boycott for immigrant justice. Marching seven miles from the 98th Avenue to the downtown Federal Building, dozens gathered at every block along International Boulevard to cheer on and join the growing river of humanity. 100,000 demonstrated in San Jose for immigrant rights on May 1st. It may have been the largest demonstration in San Jose history. I took a spill off of a speaker box and had to go home early, but got a few pictures. Below is the "front" of the march, although because of the size of the crowd, thousands had come before it....
