Gaza's blocked arteries
It is a public holiday in Gaza - with Eid and the period of official mourning for Yasser Arafat - so there is no better time to sample what it is like for Palestinians travelling through the Israeli-occupied strip.
Gaza is a 40km by 5km (25-mile by three-mile) ribbon of land along the south-east corner of the Mediterranean Sea, home to some 1.3 million Palestinians and 8,000 Jewish settlers....

What Palestinians should do now
The first priority for Palestinian leaders now must be to defend their people against Israel's relentless colonization and violence and not to negotiate with Israeli guns to Palestinian heads. They must formulate a national strategy to regain Palestinian rights enshrined in UN Resolutions, clearly explain this strategy, and organize Palestinians and allies everywhere to struggle for it, starting with full implementation of the ICJ decision on the West Bank wall. Palestinians should seek to em...

Letter to editor of Sacramento Union re: Hateful article after Arafat's death
This is a letter to the editor I wrote to the Sacramento Union after they printed a vitriolic diatribe against Arafat (more suited to the 'comments' section of an indymedia site) as an editorial in their paper on Nov. 12, 2004. After receiving many complaints, they printed a 'response' on Nov. 15, defending the article and continuing their false and racist statements against Arafat and the Palestinian people....

At approximately 8:00AM, Palestinians and international human rights activists attempted to enter Palestinian-owned land in Awarta, South East of Nablus, in order to harvest the olives.
Illegal settlers from Itamar Settlement are being protected by the Israeli Army as they burn an unknown number of Palestinian olive trees. Palestinians refused to sell their olives to the settlers, who then began to burn the trees in retaliation....

Black Muslims Respond to Arafat's Death
Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, 75, died of unknown causes in Paris early on the morning of Nov. 11. His death is quickly capturing the attention of leaders across the globe.
Some remember Arafat for his continuous quest for peace within Israel, as well as his much-documented push to create an independent Palestinian state. But others remain less inspired about the legacy he has left, finding disfavor with his political strategies and even charging that he was corrupt.
But Akbar Muham...
