Workers and their families asked, "Autonation, Where Are You?" when the giant car dealer backed out of scheduled negotiations at the last minute. Talks were to be held at the Mountain View, CA dealership today, but Autonation tried to move the meeting to an East Bay location, far from an exuberant rally. Despite zero arrests and no suspects, Mountain View police are pointing the finger at striking BMW service technicians for crimes including felony vandalism at the local auto dealership. In latest talks dealership owner AutoNation, which posted $4.0 billion in revenues in the first quarter of 2008, actually offered the workers less, not more, than what they proposed before the strike began. Last year Jackie Speier was planning to run against long-time incumbent Tom Lantos because of his unpopular strong initial support for the war in Iraq. Now in Congress, she seems to be channeling his ghost. Members of the Raging Grannies Action League do an action for peace every third Friday of the month,
and on many other days of the month as well!
Saturday May 10 found us marking Mother's Day Eve with a performance in San Mateo on stage with MC Shahid Buttar.
Friday May 16 (third Friday) we serenaded patrons at Cafe Sophia in Palo Alto.
Patrons came for the cuisine of Afghanistan and stayed for the entertainment!...

San Francisco peninsula teachers, parents, principals, school aides, students and board members joined education advocates statewide in protesting state budget cuts yesterday.
Demonstrators rallied along a 40-mile stretch of the historic El Camino Real.
Protests were timed to coincide with Governor Schwarzenegger's release of his revised state budget proposal....
