ANCHORAGE, Alaska— In response to scientific petitions filed by the Natural Resources Defense Council and Center for Biological Diversity in summer 2013, the federal government announced Friday that pinto abalone may need protection under the Endangered Species Act. The 6-inch-long marine snails have declined by between 80 percent and 99 percent throughout much of their range, primarily as a result of rampant overfishing. Even with fishing now largely prohibited, the animal’s continued surviv...

textTuition Fee Rollback by Julianne Hunsdorfer
The passing of Proposition 30 is supposed to provide more money for education in California. Tuition fee rollbacks in the CSU system meant that students should have gotten money back for the tuition fees they paid for their Fall term. Those students who receive assistance through Cal Grants, however, did not receive any of the refund, even if they paid a portion of their tuition fees out of pocket....

documentOrganic Doesn't Mean Radiation Free
fast_food_superfood.pdf
by Tomas DiFiore
Organic in it's strictest sense only means that there haven't been any 'banned' inputs to a selected environment in the 3 years prior to certification. “There are no specific requirements or guidance on seaweeds in the FDA standards. Each certifying agency has drawn up specifications that must be met to receive their certification.” And no one is testing the seawater per aqua-crop relevant to any 'Organic Certification' standards....

textAppropriate Incentives For Parks by Tomas DiFiore
Private Concession Operated Parks pay a penny on the dollar for ALL CARD FEES, the campsite reservation, purchases in onsite stores, food, fuel, bait, anything that is sold and a credit card is used - but particularly the campsite fees. And the State of California can’t figure out how to take the tickets and collect the fees. (Reservation and cancellation fees would supply millions of dollars annually to fund local non-profits working to keep parks open)....

textReporter Arrested for Recording Public Meeting by David Gurney
In my own case, there were NO requirements for press credentials, and the public policy meeting was NOT being recorded. The corrupt private contractors claimed the authority to break the law, and establish their own rules recarding coverage of their public meetings. They later changed their illegal "rules," after universal public outrage over the arrest....
