Medical Marijuana Collectives in Mendocino County can grow up to 99 plants per 5 acre parcel through a county wide zip tie program. The zip tie program exempts collectives from the county's 9.31 ordinance that limits grows up to 25 plants per parcel....

Mendocino Redwood Company (MRC) is changing the way the company personnel drafts Timber Harvest Plans, and they’re looking for public input. The change would stream line the THP process with a property wide assessment of the land to base all THPs on. President Jim Holmes says much of the information in THP's is "redundant" and the process would be a cost and time saving measure. Next MRC will draft an 80 year overall all, timber management plan....

The Obama Administration is in the process of creating a national ocean policy. The newly formed Oceans Policy Task Force is responsible for developing that policy, with public input. The task force convened in San Francisco to take west coast comments on what a national oceans policy should include. Environmental groups gathered to oppose offshore oil drilling and the US Navy's plans to conduct weapons and warfare training in Northern California waters....

The DOI, Department of Interior, held a series of regional public meetings on the Bush Administrations last minute 5 year offshore oil and gas drilling proposal. The Obama Administration has amended the plan to include offshore alternative energy developments, and has extended the public comment by 6 months to September 2009. At the Pacific West Coast hearing in San Francisco, CA state law makers, residents and representatives said NO to offshore oil and gas drilling....

Willits Redwood Company is planning to log more than 400 acres of forest near the headwaters of the Noyo River-a move opposed by environmental groups who say the plan includes logging of old growth trees. Officlas say the Willits Redwood company is offering adequate mitigations.

The US Navy’s is facing criticism for its training operations in the Pacific West Coast. Trainings include the use of sonar, aircraft and missles and underwater bomb detonations. Environmental groups says some areas should be off limits to weapons testing, and some criticize the militarization of the sea....

The announcement follows on the heels of a secretarial order making renewable energy development the Department’s top priority. The Republican National Committee has sent non-republican voters in Northern California, a letter identifying them as Republicans. The letters include a registration card with a fake voter ID number and a do not forward stamp on the outside of the envelope. Voting rights activists say the letters are part of a voter caging campaign and an attempt to undermine non-republican voters in the November election....
