North American elections and Venezuela's Bolivarian Revolution
Today, the world is experiencing another Big Lie ... is learning, once more, what is reactionary, fake "democracy" ... is seeing what are fraudulent elections in the USA.
On the other hand, on October 31, 2004, we, Latin Americans ... the peoples of Venezuela and Uruguay ... have demonstrated how seriously we take revolutionary democracy and a possible emancipatory future for mankind....

In-situ crop diversity, wild relatives and biotech GE pollen contamination
In-situ (on site) conservation of crop biodiversity is another answer to the fallacy of genetic engineering (GMO/GE) monoculture crops promoted by biotech corporations. Wild relatives of crops like rice and maize can be intercrossed/introgressed to increase resistance to insect pests and "weed" competition. We only need to protect the wild relatives of crops like rice, potatoes and maize.....

Falluja and the Iraqi Insurgency
November 4th, 2004 -- In all likelihood, American troops and the nascent Iraqi military will storm the rebel city of Falluja in the very near future. Interim Iraqi Prime Minister Ayad Allawi warned on 1 November that negotiations for a peaceful settlement were in their “final phase” and that he would shortly authorize a “military solution”. The “City of Mosques” has been subject to almost daily air strikes for weeks and is presently encircled by US forces. In peril of the coming storm, hundre...

Arabs unhappy at Bush re-election: "four years of nightmare"
CAIRO: People in the Middle East reacted with resigned disappointment yesterday to US election results that showed President George W Bush winning four more years in power.
One consolation for them was that few had had high hopes of Democratic challenger John Kerry, who had attacked the way Bush has handled the occupation of Iraq but did not promise action Arabs wanted to see on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Many said they feared another four years of Bush would bring more conflict ...

An Iraqi's Reflections On Bush's Re-Election
I don’t know whether I should laugh or what… The fact that bush won the elections didn’t have that much of an effect on me; I didn’t really care who’s going to win because I know there isn’t that much of a difference between the two candidate’s foreign policy. But reading some analysis and statistics about why did bush win is the real disaster....

And now ... 4 more years of war?
By putting George W. Bush back in the White House for four more years, the American electorate has voted for war. This is the single most important outcome of the American presidential election.
The American public knows it is already at war - at war in Iraq; at war against "global terror;" at war against Osama bin Laden and against the new "bogeyman," Abu Mussab al-Zarqawi; at war against all those who would challenge American supremacy; at war against Islam itself!

What We Call Peace is Little Better Than Capitulation To a Corporate Coup
This is an edited extract from the 2004 Sydney Peace Prize lecture delivered by Arundhati Roy at the Seymour Center last night.
Sometimes there's truth in old cliches. There can be no real peace without justice. And without resistance there will be no justice. Today, it is not merely justice itself, but the idea of justice that is under attack.
The assault on vulnerable, fragile sections of society is so complete, so cruel and so clever that its sheer audacity has eroded our definition ...
