imageStopping the New Arms Race: Nov 16 @ UCLA

by Fiat Pax
Because the University of California manages the nation's two nuclear weapons research and design laboratories it stands at the center of an unfolding political and ecological crisis of unprecedented proportions. The Coalition to Demilitarize the UC* calls upon students, staff, faculty, and community members to attend the UC Regents’ meeting in Los Angeles on November 16 to demand the Regents to divest the university’s good name and intellectual resources from the new arms race....

imageWhat Now?
120_todd_chretien.jpg
by Todd Chretien (repost and link)
These post-election thoughts come from Todd Chretien who ran a principled race as a Green for the U.S. Senate. Chretien lacked much in the way of money and media support, but he brought a wealth of real ideas to the race and no doubt greatly influenced the opinions of many who ultimately voted to send their message that the War in Iraq is wrong....

textCalifornia is Still a Blue State by Beyond Chron (reposted)
With Democrats taking back the House (and possibly the Senate) and talk of a “renewed” national Democratic Party, it was embarrassing for California – one of the most reliably blue states – to re-elect Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger by a 17-point margin. Expect the media, especially the Chronicle, to follow up in the next few days with puff pieces about how Arnold was able to buck the national trend. Republicans will no doubt renew their efforts to amend the constitution so that the Austrian-...

text11/7/06 Election Results & the 2 Peace Parties: P&F and Green by %
The California governor’s general election of 2006 was a low voter turnout election due to the deliberate lack of campaign by the pro-death penalty millionaire Democrat Phil Angelides against the pro-death penalty millionaire Republican incumbent Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. In spite of this mockery of democracy, the 2 anti-death penalty peace parties, Peace & Freedom Party and the Green Party did as well as could be expected and both certainly remain on the ballot....

imageTime to change the system
120_green_party_candidate_for_governor_peter_camejo.jpg
by Erica Martenson (repost and link)
"Even though the League of Women Voters claims to be non-partisan, the reality is that they are mostly comprised of Democrats. Did they exclude Peter Camejo, knowing that their candidate, Phil Angelides, is a weak candidate, and many Democrats would find Camejo, who is intelligent, charismatic, and truly progressive, very appealing?" Martensen points out that excluding third party candidates from debates is censorship, and that the the Republican and Democratic Parties are not really inter...
