Cathy Webster, a Chico grandmother, was one of six activists who reported to prisons throughout the country on March 21st. Cathy Webster trespassed on the U.S. Army base formerly known as the School of the Americas in order to protest the teaching of counter-insurgency techniques and torture to Latin American soldiers. In the same spirit as the civil rights movement, she used non-violent civil disobedience to shine a spotlight on the teachings of the school, which was renamed the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation (WHINSEC) in 2000.

The huge Sacramento anti-war protest occured in solidarity with national actions in D.C. on Saturday and S.F. on Sunday. The national protests are expected to be the largest since the Vietnam War. A die-in was scheduled for Sacramento at 11am on March 19th. Protests were also held in other Central Valley towns, including Stockton, Fresno, and Reedley. 1,000 people marched in downtown Fresno to demand an end to the war/occupation in Iraq.
To mark the fourth anniversary of the beginning of the war and occupation in Iraq, Peace Fresno and a coalition of valley and foothill peace and justice groups will hold a huge anti-war march and rally, including a 'die-in' at the Federal Building on March 18th from 1:30pm to 5pm. Peace Fresno president Bill Simon says, "Everyone who is against the war needs to come out to the annual 'Rally in the Valley for Peace and Justice: Bring the Troops Home Now!'"
With giant puppets of mourning women looming behind them and displays of American and Iraqi casualties nearby, speakers will address how the horror of the Iraq war impacts the people of Iraq and their loved ones Tuesday, March 6, 10:15 a.m. at the Federal Building in Sacramento.
The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) has rejected the oversight role the CA Legislature thought it had mandated in AB 2987. In a perfunctory vote, the state PUC rejected the protests of California cities and consumer groups, deciding against any direct oversight of the state's new statewide video-service franchises for phone and cable companies. PEG access provisions of the bill are now threatened.
