In Washington DC, hundreds of thousands of people braved frigid weather to rally in front of Congress and march in the streets to oppose war and to demand peace and justice. A second march on the 19th included civil disobedience and resulted in over a dozen arrests.

Protests also took place in many other cities across the US and in countries such as Turkey, Pakistan, Japan, and Britain. There was even a protest in Antarctica. Read the Europe Anti-War Report

As the United States amasses troops in the Middle East, civilian dissent against the imminent attack on Iraq is threatening to boil over. On 1/11 the streets of Los Angeles filled with more than 20,000 people in the biggest anti-war demonstraton the City of Angels has seen since Vietnam. People also converged in Mountain View, Chicago, and Twin Cities over the weekend.

San Francisco is gearing up for its own massive mobilization to take place on 1/18 to correspond with a huge demo planned for Washington D.C. Whatever your affiliation or even if you don't have one, now is the time to speak up, organize, and take part in the resistance.

Opposition to Bush's war on the poor in this country, as well as, on the rest of the globe is growing. Massive demonstrations and walkouts are planned for the day the bombs "officially" start falling. Human shield missions are also getting underway, with dozens of people going to strategic locations throughout Iraq.
Interview with Al Giordano: San Francisco IMC has interviewed Al Giordano, of Narco News, about the Venezuelan coup attempt, the media's complicity in the coup, and perspectives on how we can stop them. Read the Interview

After carrying out a two-week "national strike," or lock-out, and despite a helping hand from Associated Press and other media agencies, the Venezuelan elite has so far failed to force populist President Chavez to resign. In implementing reforms which benefit primarily the poor, Chavez has inspired well-funded opposition by oil barons and other business leaders, union bureaucrats and portions of the military, with the complicity of corporate media. Thousands of Venezuela's poor have rushed into the streets to prevent the "coup of the rich."

The Organization of American States has voted overwhelmingly to reject any future coup attempt in Venezuela or alteration of that nation's constitution. US religious and labor organizations and some members of Congress have asked President Bush, who had previously called for unconstitutional "early elections," to support democracy by opposing any move to oust Chavez by force. In San Francisco on 12/18, around 50 protesters gathered at noon at the Venezuelan consulate to show support for Chavez and the Venezuelan democratic process. Photos Read more: 1 2 3

In LA hundreds of celebrities used the occasion to speak out strongly against Bush and his war plans.

11/15: This past Veteran's Day, upwards of 200 activists formed citizen weapons inspection teams and delivered a notice of intent to inspect Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, a facility involved in the design, development and testing of nuclear weapons. A spokesman for the Lab did not respond to the group’s request for inspection, but told the corporate media, “We just don’t let people into special areas with nuclear materials.” After delivering the letter, the crowd, singing “We shall overcome”, pledged to continue returning to the Lab, until teams of international and civilian weapons inspectors are admitted.Photos | Corporate media article
12/6:Nine activists disrupted the speech of Deputy Secretary of Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz at a lunchtime fundraiser he spoke at today in San Francisco. The activists were protesting the looming new US war on Iraq. Wolfowitz is one of the main advocates and central planners of a new war against Iraq. He is co-author of the "National Security Strategy of the USA," the Administration's doctrine of global domination.

Two activists, Saul Kanowitz and Anne Sadler, organizers with the Int'l ANSWER Coalition unfurled a banner reading, "Stop the War on Iraq." They chanted, "Stop the war against Iraq, No Blood for Oil." Seven other people stood in silence, protesting Wolfowitz, wearing T-shirts with anti-war slogans. All nine were arrested and forced out of the auditorium. 100 people protested outside the Mark Hopkins Hotel in San Francisco where Wolfowitz spoke. All nine protesters were released without charges several hours later.

11/19: On November 19th, 2002 former prime minister of Israel Ehud Barak spoke at Zellerbach Hall on the Univeristy of California At Berkeley Campus.Barak was invited to UCB by the Israeli Action Committee (a right wing Jewish Organization) and while the title of the talk was "Peacemaking: Prospects for the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict", he spent most of the talk attacking the Palestinians.
Protesters gathered in lower Sproul Plaza near Zellerbach but the entire area was cordoned off by the police. About 300-400 people carried signs calling for an end to the occupation while others spoke on microphones about the failure of Barak's supposed offers to the Palestinians. In the middle of Barak’s talk about 25 protesters stood up (wearing t-shirts with the word "lie" printed on them) and walked out. They were briefly detained but then let go.
