Lynne Stewart and Michael Ratner on Bay Area Speaking Tour
Attorney Lynne Stewart is on a 21-event, six-day tour of Northern California. Michael Ratner, Jeff Mackler, and Pam Africa will accompany Lynne for the first three days, February 23-25, for meetings and receptions in San Francisco, Berkeley, Marin and Palo Alto. Events during the tour, which will last until February 28th, will benefit both Lynne Stewart and Mumia Abu-Jamal. Lynne will also visit Sacramento, Fresno and Santa Rosa, as well as three area law schools—and many other events.

San Francisco 8 Supporters Attend Court Dates, Hold Screenings of "Legacy of Torture"
An overflow crowd of family and friends of four of the San Francisco 8 packed the San Francisco courtroom of Judge
Little on Valentine's Day. Although a formal bail hearing has not yet been held, Judge Little did lower the bail for Ray Boudreaux and Hank Jones from $5 million to $3 million, and the same as was set for Richard Brown and Richard O'Neal. A formal bail hearing and other motions were scheduled for Tuesday, March 13th.
The new film "Legacy of Torture," about the San Francisco 8, will screen at the Long Haul on Sunday February 25th . The evening will also include dinner and speakers about the SF 8, and updates about Eric McDavid, who is another California political prisoner in need of support.

Vice-Mayor Ryan Coonerty Declares War on Homeless People
In the February 13th issue of the Santa Cruz Sentinel a front-page article by Shanna McCord quotes Santa Cruz Vice-Mayor Coonerty as saying "There is a sense of urgency now because people don't feel comfortable downtown. We have to respond to that." Coonerty's plan, concocted from complaints from his customers at Bookshop Santa Cruz, is to increase the criminalization of homelessness.

Judge abruptly sends Josh Wolf case to U.S. Magistrate
March 9, 2007 — Negotiations mediated by a federal magistrate failed to yield a settlement.
February 14 , 2007 — In yet another strange twist in the case against San Francisco independent journalist, Josh Wolf, U.S. District Judge William Alsup, who has rejected several defense requests to free Wolf, one as recently as last month, issued a brief order Tuesday saying he was referring the case to U.S. Magistrate Joseph Spero "in the interest of reaching a resolution satisfactory to both sides.''

Jeff Luers' Sentence Reversed
February 14, 2007 - The Court of Appeals unanimously ruled that Jeffery Luers' case will be reversed and remanded back to the Circuit Court for re-sentencing as a result of Judge Velure's errors in imposing the original draconian sentence. The opinion just came out this morning and Jeffrey's Support Network is still reviewing it for details, but it looks like Jeff could potentially get about 15 years taken off his 266 month sentence.
