Media conservatives cited faulty poll to claim popular support for domestic spying program
Conservative media figures have defended the Bush administration's warrantless domestic surveillance program by citing a Rasmussen poll saying 64 percent of Americans believe "the National Security Agency [should] be allowed to intercept telephone conversations between terrorism suspects in other countries and people living in the United States." But the key issue, which the poll misrepresents, is not whether surveillance of terrorism suspects should take place at all -- something a...

"Old Half-Witted Sheep": A New York Times Editorial Contemplates Iraq
Nearly a week before the Times' editorial writer squared up to the topic, informed observers had scrutinized the preliminary results of the Dember 15 poll in Iraq and noted that they confirmed pre-election presentiments. For example, writing on the CounterPunch website five days before Christmas, Patrick Cockburn concluded succinctly "The election marks the final shipwreck of American and British hopes of establishing a pro-western secular democracy in a united Iraq. Islamic fundamentali...

Support for Indymedia reporters
We have got to start acknowledging indy reporters as professionals. To only pay middle class male organizers and attorneys in activism is not good. I am an indy media reporter. I am low income. I would like very much to cover the trials in Eugene of the environmental activists. But I simply cannot afford it, which leaves me sad......

Norman Solomon: Defends John Yoo as "minor" & Gov't Lie on 9/11 Inside Job
Normon Solomon, a journalist, again repeated the government's lie on the 9/11 inside Job, claiming it was not an Inside Job, and now adds that the infamous law professor at UC Berkeley's law school, Boalt Hall, John Yoo, best known for authoring torture memos, is just a minor functionary. This reactionary routine was heard on KPFA, 12/22/05, and hopefully, Norman Solomon, and his fellow reactionary, a Mr. Perry, who repeated the same gov't lie on 9/11, will not appear on KPFA again....

Corporate Media Shenanigans: Katie Couric and Tim Russert playing their game
Look at Katie Couric and Tim Russert playing their game. Really it’s maddening. Couric pitted constitutional scholars versus "Americans" who "don't want another September 11" and Russert allowed Rice to deflect eavesdropping questions. (Thanks to Media Matters…)...
