With Nov 5th approaching, ILWU brings community together for Oscar Grant
Despite torrential rain, on Oct 23rd the ILWU, Oakland teachers and the community gathered at Frank Ogawa Plaza to protest the killing of Oscar Grant, father of Tatiana and partner of Sophina Mesa, by former BART Transit officer Johannes Mehserle. Mehserle is set to be sentenced for his involuntary manslaughter conviction on Nov 5th, 2010....

ILWU Rally and Shut Down All Bay Area Ports Demanding "Justice for Oscar Grant! Jail Killer Cops!"
On October 23rd, the ILWU Local 10 longshore workers closed all bay area ports (Richmond, Benicia, Redwood City, Oakland and San Francisco) and rallied in Oakland's Frank Ogawa Plaza to protest the murder of Oscar Grant with the demand "Justice for Oscar Grant! Jail Killer Cops!" ILWU union port workers joined the rally which brought together many organizations, including labor unions, high school and college students, the faith-based community and the general public in a call for justice.

Justice 4 Oscar Grant Armada Continues in McCovey Cove
For the second time this month, messaging in support of justice for Oscar Grant appeared out on the water of McCovey cove to counter a boat with pro-Mehserle messaging that has been present during recent games. On Wednesday, October 6th, community activists held a press conference at Oakland's City Hall to denounce Johannes Mehserle defense attorney Michael Rains' motion to request a new trial [attached below]. The Alameda County District Attorney's office has not yet filed a response. The motion will be heard at the scheduled November 5th sentencing hearing for Mehserle's involuntary manslaughter conviction for shooting an unarmed Oscar Grant in the back on January 1st, 2009.

The majority of the SF Board of Supervisors sold out the community in San Francisco by allowing Lennar the Rogue Developer - to do as they please on Parcel A, and - when the time comes on the other parcels at the Hunters Point Shipyard that are still under the jurisdiction of the United States Navy. JUSTICE 4 OSCAR MESSAGE AT GIANTS PLAYOFF GAME
Tonight a 40-foot banner with the message "Justice 4 Oscar Grant" (dot net) flew from the side of a sailboat viewable by tens of thousands of baseball fans at the Giants/Braves playoff game. At the start of the 9th inning, Todd Mehserle, brother of Johannes Mehserle, motored up next to the boat and drew up one of two banners he had flown at prior Giants games this season.
