The Coalition for Justice for Oscar Grant stands in solidarity with the people arrested on November 5th and we stand firm in our belief that the people have a right to assemble, a right to demonstrate, a right to march and a right to take a stand against a system that continuously oppresses, brutalizes and murders them. Letting off a cop who murdered a young Black man in cold blood, in front of hundreds of witnesses, with a token sentence is a crime. Demanding justice for Oscar Grant is not! All those arrested at the November 5 protest in Oakland should be released immediately without charges....

image2 Years! Bullshit! Photos from the March and Rally Against the Mehserle Sentencing
march3.jpg
by Felix Barrett
These are photos taken from the rally and march on November 5. As many speakers said, quoting John Burris, attorney for the family of Oscar Grant, Michael Vick got 4 years for shooting a dog. Johannes Mehserle got 2 years for shooting Oscar. To this rotten system the life of a young Black man is worth less than a dog!...

by Francisco Da Costa
Lennar has just announced that it will not start any project at Hunters Point Naval Shipyard until all the lawsuits pending in court are settled. That is NOT going to happen. Lennar in the first place intimidated the constituents of Bayview Hunters Point. So, it is this segment of the population that it has to deal with first. The others, because they have money and ulterior motives have jumped on the bandwagon - but as I said we the people at ground zero, were there before anyone else....

textMehserle Gets Minimum Recommended Sentence: 2 Years Minus Time Served by dave id
Predictably, Judge Rober Perry has thrown out the gun enhancement the jury added to Johannes Mehserle's conviction of Involuntary Manslaughter and has sentenced Mehserle to the very minimum recommended sentence for Involuntary Manslaughter - two years, giving Mehserle credit for time served, meaning Mehserle could be out of state prison in just over a year from now. With the gun enhancement in place Mehserle was facing up to 14 years in prison for the Involuntary Manslaughter conviction....

imageScenes from Downtown Oakland in Lead Up to Expected Mesherle Sentencing, 11/5/10: photos
2010-11-05_10-14-51_76.jpg
by dave id
These photos were shot as the hearing in Los Angeles Superior Court was already underway this morning. The build-up for the expected sentencing has been more subdued and far less hyperbolic in the corporate media and in the halls of power than it was prior to July 8th, when the jury's disappointing verdict of Involuntary Manslaughter was announced. Partly, that may be due to organizers of the event at Frank Ogawa plaza today having worked with city officials to security permits and pay rela...

The Coalition for Justice for Oscar Grant held a protest Monday, November 1st at KTVU headquarters in Oakland. imageDemocrats reel back in defeat to lick their wounds and hopefully learn from their mistake

by Francisco Da Costa
The Democrats had their day and turned it into a nightmare - printing and spending money and disrespecting the tax payers. Nancy Pelosi is out and the Republicans now have more then 10 new Governors in States where they can carve out districts and further send the drab Democrats reeling into further - defeat. The Tea Party boosted the Republican Party but this gift does not come without strings - and the Tea Party has sent a message to stop celebrating and start putting things back on track. ...
