The situation in Algiers got a bit more surreal this week when the U.S. military asked the anarchists for help in providing basic services to local residents. A medical military clinic commander asked the folks running the Common Ground Clinic if they could lend a few medics and doctors to the military until the military sets up a “permanent” health clinic on Newton Avenue on Monday....

Almost every Friday my family and I go to Modi'in, a settlement north of Jerusalem, to buy plants and flowers for our garden, ending our shopping spree with a delicious ice-coffee to quench our thirst in the blazing summer heat. As we waited at the Modi'in junction for the traffic light to turn green, Jewish settlement youth were distributing ribbons in two colors, orange and blue/white. Ultimately, the Gaza withdrawal is a welcome first step, provided that is done with honorable intentions. The strengthening of Israeli settlements elsewhere understandably dampen the enthusiasm and raise suspicions. But it’s time to start thinking of the human price -- a price that has no dollar amount nor gets much attention....
